advice for winding hilly bike route - Granite Bay
This morning I checked out the TBF Granite Bay bike route for the triathlon. I'll be racing the duathlon on Sunday. This is a 13 mi route (6.5 mi loop), with a lot of winding hills. A couple required me to climb standing on my bike. I've read that isn't ideal for transitioning into a run afterwards. The run is a 5 mi trail with some steep hills.
I previewed that as well. Yikes! I'm not strong on trails at all. So my question is, esp. for anyone who has experience racing this course, will standing on some of those climbs be detrimental for my legs afterwards? I read some previous reviews of the course here, and I'm just glad it's still summer weather, as that trail would be a nightmare if it were wet.
If this even matters; I ride an entry-level road bike (Specialized Dolce) w/SPD's, have a summer of brick workouts under my belt, and have completed one duathlon so far (back in August). That course (Rancho Seco) wasn't nearly as difficult.
Thanks.

Thanks, sometimes I just need to take a step back and not panic so much. No one I overheard who raced the course today was bragging about what a breeze it was, so yes, we'll all be suffering.

Wow, the 5 mi run was much harder than the bike ride. I've never had to stop and walk during a running race until today. Steep segments of trail rutted out from rain and mountain bikes. The half marathon I'm running next week will be a breeze compared to this!

^^Is it as hot up North as it is down here? Good job on the racing and best wishes for the half marathon next weekend? Which one will you race?
