Did my first sprint tri

Swim was iffy. Definitely need to put more emphasis on that aspect of my training.

Cycle was a dream. Was able to visualize attacks, and be competitive against other riders.

The run was where I gassed. I did a 8 mile run the morning before (Friday, aka yesterday) and deep into the 7th mile I felt some tightness in my left knee (behind in the two major tendons) and that seemed to really slow me down on the run.

I'm giving myself a week off running, but will be doing about 800m repeats on swims 3 times this week just to rehab my knee and probably will keep myself at 100 miles of riding between mountain bike and getting out on the CAAD for pure cadence work.

I definitely will be doing another, with proper tri gear this time. I did the entire race in a traditional bathing suit and it felt awkward.

Congratulations on your race. Did you not think about tapering, at least the run so that you would be fresh for the race? A week off the legs is good given you are injured however, I suggest you do more than 800 meter swim repeats. You may want to consider drill work and a lot of pulling with paddles.

Swimming requires both form and strength. It may be that your mechanics need some coaching. Do you have someone you know who is a seasoned swimmer that can provide some advise on your form?
+1 on the tapering, you need to go into a race with fresh everything

Congrats on finishing a sprint without tapering and with a traditional swim suit (what I assume might be baggy shorts). Reading your post makes me chuckle inside.

I signed up with the Master Swim program at my local rec center, so I'm getting some formal training. Swimming is tough. Breathing while swimming is tough.

Victorian era traditional tri-suits were pretty rockin.

Congrats! +1 on 'taper'. I don't think you need much of a taper for a sprint, but I would at least take off the day before. Good luck with the next one!
