Cannondale Slice Sizing for Tall Guy

Hi All

I live in Pittsburgh where there is a somewhat limited selection of tri bikes to sample.

Right now there also appears to be a shortage of available tri bikes for order.

As a consequence I am somewhat limited in bike brand choice and I have not had the opportunity to be fitted up on different sized bikes.

I am 6'4" and ride a 60cm Cannondale road bike.

My LBS has a 58cm Slice 3 available but no 60cm versions and there are no larger bikes available for them to order. Their bike fitting guy at the LBS tells me adamantly that the 58cm Slice is the correct size for me. Problem is, I have no previous experience of how a tri bike should feel and I am suspicious that they are simply trying to sell me the 58cm rather than lose a sale.

Does anybody have any comments on whether, at 6'4", it is likely that a 58cm could really fit me? Am I just a weird shape...or am I getting the hard sell?

Thanks

i have seen on slowtwitch that folks insist you size down on a TT. how does it feel?

It feels OK but it is really hard to say without spending time on it. There are some tweaks that it will need to improve comfort so I will head back to the LBS and try and get them to make those changes.

I normally ride a 58cm road, didnt fit on a 58cm tri, felt a little too stretched out on 56, but felt very comfortable on 54cm....you should be good on 58 cm, that's what i recommend, if you dont feel good, i'd may even jump down to a 56cm, but it will be a stretched out 56....up to you, 58 should be fine, but when in doubt, go try more out.

Im a poet and i didnt even know it YO!

I agree, I sat on a bunch of TT bikes before I decided which maker made bikes best for me. I am 5' 11" and have a 29" inseam, so much of my height is in my torso. But, I hated the feeling of being too stretched out. Took a long time and riding many bikes before I found my current steed which fits me pretty well.

You will be sitting a bit further forward on a tri bike and more stretched out. I would go by feel - if it rides good and you are able to stretch out comfortably in the areo position rather than having a rounded back it is probably the right size. if they put you on too small of a fram your knees will be periously close to the handle bars.
