draft legal triathlons
Whose idea was it to allow drafting in international triathlons? I was watching OLN today and they had a UTI qualifier for Athens. I missed the Olympics and this was the first time I've seen an international competition. The race broke up into two large packs!! How can this be? Why not just drop the bike from the event completely? Basically, it's a running event now. Everyone conserves energy for the run. Many bikes didn't have tri bars and I didn't see one disk. How long has this been going on? I hope there is a movement to go back to the way things used to be.

These are the ITU draft-legal events. I agree, it's better than watching no triathlon at all on TV, but I don't care for them that much, because it's turned into a running race, unless of course you miss making the break with the lead pack. It all boils down to the fastest 10-K runner who can save the most energy by wheel sucking.
Hang in there...OLN will be showing the Lake Placid event shortly, and NBC (I think) will be televising the Kona triathlon soon as well.

Thanks TriBob! I knew it was coming soon, but had forgotten the exact date. I enjoyed myself so much watching the event in person, that I just had to see the re-cap on TV. I had spent a lot of time out on the bike course, at the junction of Rt. 86 and the road that brought the racers back into town.
