TT bike brakes ... do they "stop" you or just "slow you down"?

Picked up my new TT bike from the shop where he completed the final assembly and adjustments. The owner/mechanic made a comment about the brakes being "slow down" brakes, inferring that they are not as efficient at stopping a bicycle as road bike brakes. Is this true? Are TT brakes not as good at stopping a bike as my road bike? Or, is he just a lousy mechanic. Brakes are TRP T-920, one in front of the head tube, rear behind the bottom bracket on the chain stay.

Probably, those are center pull brakes which usually have less stopping power than dual pivots.

Why on earth do you want to stop? Seems counter productive to me.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, center pull. To be able to stop? Well, when out on a training ride, for things like stop signs and signals. Stuff like that.

My TT uses the same brakes as my road (both are DA 7900)... both stop equally, well, not that either are great... since going to carbon wheels and pads on both.

never seen center pull... except on cyclocross...
