Renting Wheels for race day?
I am entered in the Luray International Tri in August and noticed they offer to rent you race wheels at the race. I have also researched other options and found this seems to be common.
Has anyone ever rented wheels for raceday? What was your experience like? Any recommended sources? Cheers |
Never rented but good wheels can surely make a difference.

racewheelrental.com is probably the cheapest. But only downside is that you have to go to a bike shop to get it. They don't deliver directly to you.

Thanks, I actually found a local shop that had a set. $80.00 for the weekend, so I can't complain.
Then it's yours forever. Or if nothing else, wheelbuilder.com sellss disk covers for 95 bucks for your rear wheel. Not going to get any bigger bang for the buck regarding wheels than that. And a pair of continental GP4000s with latex tubes will probably be just as if not more effective at gaining speed (via significantly reduced rolling resistance) than a regular 50mm carbon rim, meaning you could take that rental money and invest in the tires and tubes and be just as, if not faster over and over and over again. |

Not sure if it's worth the extra 200-300 bucks, but on ebay you can get 60mm-88mm carbon tubulars for 350 bucks shipped, clinchers for 400-450.

I saw those on eBay and I was thinking about picking a pair up. I was just not sure if they would arrive by race day. They are from China, I think, I wonder about the quality. |
