First Triathlon: Success!

I competed in my first triathlon today for my school; I had barely trained at all for it but I have a good competitive cycling background and decent running as well, swimming OTOH is terrible.. This was also the first time I biked and/or ran after swimming. Got a few swimming lessons from my friend about a month ago but since then havn't swam at all. Anyway..

It was a 375m swim/ 15km bike (dead flat)/ 5km run (also flat)

The entire race I paced myself really well expect the swim I was dying in the pool trying to suck in any air I could find.
I finished the swim in 9:49 which is very poor.
Bike was on a hard packed gravel path and I completed that in 36:28 which I was expecting a little quicker but had to pace myself for the run.
The run I did in 24:11.

Overall I finished 9/57 which isn't great considering the competition which was not the greatest but I am very happy with my time considering this was my first triathlon. If I was a little better at swimming I bet I could have been up in the top 5 easily. At least I get to brag to all my friends now :) For the record, it was a ton of fun!

ONLY a ton of fun. ;)

Congratulations and welcome to the tri-club. So when is your Ironman????

Thanks and hahaha, now that I've done a triathlon, albeit a very small one, I only now realize just how crazy an ironman actually is... maybe in the next life :)

There's 17 hours for an Ironman.....no problem-oh......:roflmao2:

My first tri was a Sprint, the weekend following my 63rd birthday. Not a swimmer or runner and still finished. Told myself I WAS going to complete an Ironman. 1.5 years later it was completed, still being a lousy swimmer and no running. Expected a 15 hour finish time and wound up with a 13:31:48.

Mind over body and just HAVE FUN!!!!

Good luck in your future.

That's awesome, congratulations!

I don't really see myself right now doing an ironman but we'll see how things go. I might do a sprint tri in a month's time with my friends, it would be optimal for me to do tri's though as I live in a prime spot for it (Re: 5 min walk from a lake).

Thanks and good luck in your future as well !

Way to go! Pretty impressive for just starting. Sounds like you have some natural talent and might want to keep at it. Enjoy!

Thanks, I've thought about it but I don't think I have the commitment for something like this. Plus when it comes to cycling and swimming, natural talent just hasn't really shown to be true for me, I'll consider it for sure though :)

You don't have to do an Ironman to enjoy the sport. Sprints are fun!
