Now I done it, First Tri!

Well actually my 14th tri, but the others were 26-27 years ago! I turn 60 in a couple of weeks and decided instead of having double knee surgeries I'd just train for and do a tri . . . . that's another whole story.

Sunday was the day. Awesome weather and people both in the race and the race crew. Swam the ¼ in 10:24, TI 2:07, Bike 17 / 55:03 (18.5mph), T2 1:48 (forgot to put on race # and had to go back), 5K in 29:11 (9:23 mi). Finished in 1:38:34 and was 72 out of 169 starters. Only 7 were my age or older. Now I just need to decide on the next race. I will probably do a couple of 5K runs in the next couple of months as there are a number close by. Looking at a couple of sprint events in driving distance in late July or early August.

Outstanding Job! I am 56 and training to run my first Tri. I have the running and biking down. Working on the swim.

Thanks all!
Jareed, you'll do well, the running is really the hardest part I think. If you haven't already, I really would suggest trying to get a few OWS into your training. They helped me a lot. I wasn't fast in the water, but I wasn't stressed at all and I don't think it took much out of me for the bike/run.

Well done MikeD1. I'm jealous of those transition times. I always seem to burn up days and days in the pit. :)

Signed up for Race #2 . It's similar distances but a pool swim (would have preferred ows) . Four weeks from this coming Saturday and easy driving distance so no motel stay needed. Ordered clip on aero bars, should be here tomorrow. We'll see if I can "assume the position".

Local races usually treat me the best. Nothing like packing up the night before, sleeping in your own bed, and hopping in the car after a breakfast in your own kitchen.

Local is good. Saves time and money. Aero bars are great. You will adapt. Good luck and have fun.

I have a Sprint in July that I can ride my bike to, but, carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow and I'm not sure if doc will clear me.
