Nah, looked like Mr BMX tried to overtake on the wrong side and came up short when the bus got too close. Camera guy had to swerve right to avoid being hit by Mr BMX as he swerved to avoid the bus.

Yeah,maybe.....

+1. The incident looks like it was totally the BMX guy's fault to me.

The BMX dude had no business 1. trying to pass on the left and 2. trying to do so in a bus stop area with a parked bus fast approaching. He also had no justification to commit the overt act of assault and/or battery.

Let me just clarify that you can't force another person into a parked bus by holding your line.

That is a jail-able offense for sure.

Doesn't he pass on the right, and kick the front wheel on the way by? That's how it looks to me.

Yes but the BMX guy initially tries, unsuccessfully, to pass on the left while heading toward a parked bus in a bus stop zone.

alexaschwanden 08-11-14 03:56 PM

That's messed up.

italktocats 08-11-14 04:08 PM

not saying it okay to hit another

buuuuuut

he totally just blocked his way and even steered to the left

and he locked his front, not bmx-guys's foot

What was he expected to do, slam on his brakes for some dickhead surreptitiously attempting to pass unsafely on the wrong side?

Nope, totally wrong. Look again.

Wrong. First,he said he wasn't looking because he was looking for cars. The BMX rider came up his inside, which is totally the wrong way to pass someone.

This.

Curious why he didn't chase down the BMX rider.

you need to ride in a busy area more often.

both people are tools in this video.

He explained in the youtube comments. It was written in somewhat broken English, so I've changed a few words to clarify what I think he meant:

"My chain came [off] and the cyclist [behind me tried] to catch him [but] couldn't [because the BMX'er] jumped [the curb] and ran up the stairs in waterloo bridge."

You are wrong. The only demonstrable "tool" in the video was the dingus on the BMX. The guy who got jacked didn't do anything even remotely wrong.

GamblerGORD53 08-11-14 07:33 PM

The BMX rider will certainly make a fine BMW driver some day.
The other guy however is sure clueless about his surroundings. I gather he didn't say SMIDSY or sorry.

I'm sure he didn't since he was probably unaware that the BMX rider had even tried to pass him on the wrong side until he looked at the video later. If I'm approaching a vehicle ahead of me that's blocking the curb lane my concentration will be on making sure that I can safely move out into traffic without being hit. So in the situation here with the bus at the curb I'd be looking over my right shoulder checking for traffic from the rear before moving right to get around the bus. No way would I be able to see another cyclist pulling around me on my left (wrong) side while my head is turned around to the right (and in busy urban traffic there's so much noise I doubt that the BMX cyclist would be heard either unless he chose to announce his presence - which he didn't).

The only reason we know about the attempted wrong-side pass is because the camera was aimed straight ahead - but that's not where the cyclist's eyes would have been pointed in that situation.

We're getting too distracted by "who kicked who".

The first mistake here was that road bike guy was losing the Great Race to a BMXer. If he'd used his pedals none of this would have happened.

Uh, according to the video, the BMX guy had been passed ~100yds back (at the start of the recording), back when the BMX guy was doing nearly 0mph. The BMX guy came up from behind, along the bus parking area, but got shorted when his attempt at an inside pass failed due to him coming upon the parked bus sooner than he'd anticipated. He then jetted from behind on the right-hand side of the road guy, taking out his front wheel.

I don't see any "great race" going on here. All that's clearly evident is a cyclist coming up from behind twice, the first instance resulting in him cutting himself off at the tail end of the parked bus, and the last instance of which resulted in him assaulting the other guy.

Hard to blame the lead cyclist, when he's always been in the lead and (likely) wasn't aware of the trailing guy's feelings of having been offended or slighted. The BMX guy knew darned well what he was perpetrating.

Leisesturm 08-12-14 12:57 AM

I'm just asking... I didn't see the video and its late, I'm not going to see it tonight, but... all this "wrong side" stuff... what is the wrong or right side to pass someone on in London? Is that being factored in all the armchair quaterbacking?
