Finished my first DIY Trailer conversion!!

I had a Schwinn folding kiddo trailer in my storage unit that I wasn't sure what to do with. Since the kids are old enough to ride on their own these days, I figured I could try and sell it, find a friend who might use it for a year or two or, turn it into something I can use for a long time.....I went with option C.
Away went all of the nylon tenting and fiberglass poles. (I did take time to remove the near dozen quick release buckles and strap adjusters for later projects.) I then used a conduit bender to reshape the side poles and cut them down into side rails. I was initially going to try and use aluminum for the bottom but was worried about strength once mounted and being able to keep the folding option for the trailer. I searched around Youtube for some ideas and found a video of a guy using paracord for a deck chair weave. Out came a couple of rolls of the stuff I had around and my trusty power drill. With a little help from my lovely Wife for the final stretching, it had it all together in one afternoon. The tennis racket style weave I went with is super light weight yet holds my full body weight (#240). Now I can't wait to get out and put it to use this weekend.

Interesting mesh job.

An, it will double as a tennis racket on the court!!!! Let us know how well that works out in the future.

I do find that a little fender protection is nice to keep loads from falling into the tires.

Looks very nice! Great job. Keep some cargo netting handy to cover your haul so it doesn't fall off.

This is pretty cool. Just found this thread cause I had the same idea today and was googleing around! My original idea was some sort of webbing, but then, like you, I saw the paracord idea.

Been using a converted steel trailer that a friend gave me, with a wooden deck and it weighs a ton. Yesterday I found an aluminum kiddy trailer at the thrift store for 5 bucks. less than half the weight of the steel trailer and I want to keep it light.

Hows it holding up?
