Golly, my first post in this esteemed forum.
I want a bike trailer that can convert to a shopping cart, so I can pop it off the bike, flip something around, and take it into the grocery store. I've looked and looked, and nothing like that seems to exist. It doesn't have to be huge, enough for 4-5 bags of groceries. I've thought about converting one of those three-wheeled baby joggers, just not sure if they can take bicycle speeds; I've even looked at a steel folding cart (just slap on bigger wheels and an attachment thingy). I have minimal space and tools, and zero experience, but I'm willing to give it a try. TIA for any advice or resources. Check out the Maya Cycle bicycle trailer. It might help! :) http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psqvfx950v.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pssz0b9z1z.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psyr1iq7yq.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pszwxodqd9.jpg |
Wike has some cool stuff (though not particularly inexpensive):
Speedy Cart - Upright Bike Shopping Cart. Easy walking shopper for your bicycle with shopping bag hooks. | Wike Bicycle Trailers - The Walk and Bike Company Grocery Bicycle Trailer | Wike Bicycle Trailers - The Walk and Bike Company But, IMO, basic flatbed trailer + storage box is the way to go. I walk the cart over to the trailer, enjoy the strange looks...and when I get home, I can just carry the whole box of groceries into the house. |

Thanks, martin_at_gbc, that's very pretty. I'm starting to think DIY; did you see this one?
Very cool! DIY will always make you feel like your skills get appreciated by the wife ;) Some pics of our ride in September :) we really enjoyed the beautiful weather :) and the Maya Cycle Trailer performed brilliantly ;) http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psailygk16.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pstaaxoxps.jpg |
My original thought was to mod something like this shopping cart; add 16" rear wheels, remove front wheels and add some kind of folding foot, maybe beef up the structure a bit, add a seat post attachment (a bit of hand waving here), and presto! It'd probably fall apart at the first use. I'm looking more and more at the hand truck option. Just gotta find some cheap/free kids' bikes for wheels. And, you know, stuff.

the Maya Cycle Trailer performed brilliantly ;) I hope that trailer performed; at $250, it better. I do love the front kickstand; I'd love to have something like that on mine. |
