Schwinn Meridian

I understand that the rear spindle and bearings are a weak point on these bikes. Anyone know where to find stronger aftermarket replacements?

I own the signature version which is the Town & Country. All schwinn parts are the same and proprietary to the design. I'd kill to have one with a rear diff like the original. So far I go through an axel every other year.

Machine Shop , hire it made .. the Keyway shaft can be found as Machined stock ,

but then you have to find a different Bearing to fit that .
in the frame tubes .. as It will be oversize

If that is too much $ ride it and replace parts as they Fail ..

The final drive cog can be moved along the shaft, to be re aligned with a Multispeed Hub which functions as the counter shaft with 2 sprockets On It..

I understand OTOH, the weak parts are the compromises made in order to make it Cheap enough
to sell at a Low enough cost in the Shops.

Your aftermarket Option is have the whole thing replaced and Hang the cost..

Expensive differentials are made in German Shops for 2 rear wheel Recumbents .
to power more than 1 wheel.

I found a go-kart axle at Northern Tool $119. Going to buy a Husky T-326.
600lb. weight limit. The axle is 38" long. Having it cut down to fit.
Hang the cost. Putting a box, $98, on the back and mounting a hub motor in the box. Painting it dark emerald green.
Putting 144spoke rims on. Thinner spokes but 4X as many. Disc brakes on all 3 wheels, and tassles.
