1953 Bicycle Sidecar Plans
I've found a set of 65½ years old plans in the 1953 January and February issues of Practical Mechanics magazine for a braked bicycle side car.
I'll get all 6½ pages of them scanned properly at the library this week and then I'll let anyone who wants them have a set as a PDF download https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1cee14d7c6.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...11c92a3564.jpg |
That is very cool! |
Awesome treasure it is.
|
Awesome. And 1953 was a mighty good year. :D
|
Very, very cool!
I'd like a link for the PDF plans when you have it ready, please. :) |
I too would be interested in a PDF copy when you get ready to share!
I have toyed with the idea of a side car on a couple of my bikes for the dog. He loves riding but gets bored in the trailer because he wants to see what is coming up. Aaron ;) |

Apologies for the delay: I have had printer and scanner windows 10 issues.
Here is a PDF file of the scans I have taken of the Bicycle side car plans from the `1953 practical mechanics Magazine. |
Link does not work.
"Cannot display file ... Bad Format ..." |
Works for me off two different laptops and a PC.

Thank you for the pdf. Oh man I have some ideas now! |
Gee... designer sure went over the top drawing up that convoluted unnecessarily overcomplicated braking system :innocent: like 2/3rds of the article is about the brakes... Was curious of how sidecar attached... hmm just 2 tabs hanging off the nondrive chainstay... have doubts how long that'll survive :foo: there's a lot of forces going on down there, even before cornering lean |
The download worked just fine for me. Thanks for sharing!
