Just ordered my Bikes at Work trailer!
 

Hi!

Just bragging now 'cause I'm soooo happy. After several months of waiting to get the dough, I finally ordered my trailer from BAW this afternoon. Still a month ahead until it's delivered and I can't wait!

The one I got is the Model 48.

I'm gonna be smiling all week. :)

What kinds of tasks made you decide you'd like that type of trailer?

I have to admit, it's pretty exciting to have a good cargo capacity on one's bike.

I recently purchased the model 96.

I have not hauled anything on it except one bike and a few friends.

Its pretty awesome though.

Cerewa: Mostly once every week a 4 people grocery. Also a lot of beer for parties in the summer, my music instruments, my cat's box to the vet, and whatever big enough I might want to carry. Probably plants and dirt for my mom's garden too.

I looked into other ones but the bikes at work seemed the sturdiest and the most versatile.

You haul dirt/plants for your Mom? You are a good son!

How much?

It's 457 US including shipping, minus the custom fees... I guess it'll come just under 600$ CAN. That's a lot, but considering people have been using those for many, many years without a single problem, I think it's a god investment. I'll have more capacity than a small car. :)

I'm quite jealous! I've been wanting to get a Bikes at Work trailer for years. The biggest problem is I currently live in an apartment building. The shared garage is insecure, and there's no space in the apartment.

I would love to be able to take my bike to the shop, or bring home four or five big bags of groceries with ease. I'm not car-free yet, but having a utility trailer like this would help me reduce my automobile usage even further.

Here's the pic I took of it. I need to go buy a few things for it, but I've done a small run with it around town and it's definitely fun to ride with it. :D I was soooo proud, people were all looking hehe!

Nice! Looks like you could carry longer items. Also looks like you could fit a Rubbermaid box or 2 and attach with bungees. Is that what you planned?

It's exactly what it's made for. It can carry 3 x 18gal (68L) rubbermaid roughneck containers.

I'll be getting a plywood plank to put on the bottom to carry stuff that won't fit on the tubing, and I'm working on something to carry bikes back and forth the LBS when they break or bring them somewhere else.

This is one of their short models at 48", there's also a shorter 32" model, and 2 longer ones at 64" and 96". It's big but not "very" big, at least not that I've found. The lens I've been using on that pic is pretty wide, so the foreshortening makes it seem much bigger. I'll take side pics tomorrow night after work.

The 32" can take 2 bins, the 48" can take 3, and so on.

here is my trailer. I used the same dimensions. though I balanced the load. I used bikes at work wheels and axle. but I goofed on the hitch it is shaped wrong and you can't turn right very sharply.

Where did you get the axle and wheels?

Bikes at Work sells a fork mount bike rack accessory for their 64" and 96" trailers for $40. I'm not sure it will work with your 48" model, but it's worth looking into:

Is it fairly easy to connect/disconnect? These look great, but I don't want to have it attached unless I need it for a specific purpose.

Yes, very easy. It takes less than 10 seconds to attach. Simply align the eyelets of the trailer and the hitch and put the lock in. The hitch is always on the bike tho, but it's very light so it's not a hassle to let it on.

The hitch steveknight shown in his images is not the same as mine at all. They must have changed it. It's now much smaller.

I am planning on geting a BAW trailer in the near future. However, my BOB trailer easily holds a lot of groceries (I fill a rubbermaid bin, and can stack some things on top of that). When I lived in an apartment, the BOB was no trouble to store. In one place I had a big hall closet, and I put a nail in the back wall (into a stud, of course). I would hang the trailer top-side-towards-the-wall. In another apartment, I had an under-stair closet. I put a plastic hook on the top of the door (the kind of hook that's intended to provide hanging space for clothing), and hung the trailer on the inside of the door. Now, I have a 'bicyle hook' that I screwed into a stud in the wall of the garage, and I hang the BOB by it's wheel. I can even leave the trailer flag attached!

Whatever trailer one uses, getting groceries is a snap. You park right by the market's door, use your own bin instead of bags, load up and ride home, and it's one trip into your house with the groceries.

I own a 64" model, got it about a year or two back. Very, very useful! I purchased a bike carrying hitch from their site, too. (my advice if you are carrying bikes on your trailer is to secure the nut/quick release assembly on your detached front wheel - I lost my skewer and half my hub on one occasion!) I like having a longer model because sometimes I carry 8' long construction materials. It was worth whatever I spent on it - I forget anymore!

Looks like you could stand that trailer on end and not take up much room.
Or put a junior mattress on it and have a kid's bed.
