Here is my trailer. It's a cartop carrier on an aluminum frame that fabricated.

I got an inquiry to build a custom trailer to haul a 9’ long surfing board. Fine and good until the person tells me they’re worried about turbulence from passing semis on the freeway affecting his ride – which it most certainly would. I didn’t have a good answer for him short of an obnoxious amount of ballast. Should I be so pessimistic? Thoughts?

It takes less than 30 seconds to attach and detach. The trailer drop outs sit on shoulder bolts and are held in place with locking hooks and fastened with allen screws. The bike has mounts placed on the quick release and bolts in the fender mount holes.

Here is my trailer now, I finally put our shop's name on the side......
http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...3/IMG_3057.jpg .... now I have to be on my best behavior :) I daily haul well over 100Kg on that trailer, it is one solid and heavy trailer. By itself the trailer weighs 34Kg. I hope to build a new more robust, but lighter trailer this year. Cheers! |

Here's my trailer, a Nashbar Cargo 2 trailer (poor student I am).
I'd like to get one with suspension to protect my cello as much as possible! |
Thanks everyone, now you have me looking for trailers on Craigslist! Hahahaha My wife won't appreciate your influence on me.
I did find Schwinn trailer locally for cheap. Maybe I could convert that to a flatbed and use it for larger loads, or keep it as a carrier and carry my niece around in it. I'm sure she would have a blast. |

that AND a big fat balloon tire like a Big Apple 16X2.35" deflated to 20lbs.....im guessing a cello is far too light to get any travel out of the Ibis shock's coil.

I now use a trailer with a low hitch that attaches to the rear axle, it's much nicer to use. I've never carried as much as 100 kg in my trailer, but must have had 50-60 kg in my trailer and towing that uphill is hard, as is repeated stopping and starting. My advice to anyone trying this is to ensure your trailer tyres are well inflated, ensure the load is positioned so that the hitch receives a medium downwards load and btw, keep the speed down, especially around corners. Also read the road ahead and brake gently. You will want to avoid jack-knifing. |

It would probably advisable to mount the surfboard no higher than immediately above the axles. Alternatively, you could try getting Mythbusters to have a look at it? You'll need some friends to propagate an urban myth. |

With 100 pounds of shelving for my shop... loading it was harder than towing it as the legs are pretty good but the back sucks.

What kinda trailer is that? Old kid Carrier?
Removed the top and turned some of the internals bits into the silver press bar you see... there is a 100 litre tote that drops right in and the press bar is what keeps it in place and it can be taken in and out in about 15 seconds. I also have a single Chariot trailer that is intact with all it's covers... it is is good when I take the dog out as if it rains she is sheltered (and also shaded) and also has a nice suspension. |

It is a re purposed MEC trailer that I got for free, had to buy the hitch arm for $20.00 and swapped in better tyres.

Well it is beautiful! I have never had a bike trailer before and I'm on the lookout for a kid carrier for sale in my area to convert into a trailer. |

Boy am I slow, first time I finally showed a picture of my bike on here. :P
Hitch was pre-made, came with the trailer. The flag was of my own adding. The trailer weighs 15-20 pounds empty, it can hold up to 100 pounds. Despite it being a kid trailer, I often haul cargo in it. |
Maximum capacity!
With this I can do my 2 kids and a schoolmate, or just the two and a cooler, blanket, ball, and all the fixin's for a riverside picnic. Or about 6 cases of wine when I get the chance to run an in-town delivery! http://p6.hostingprod.com/@chaadthom..._kit3_2012.jpg http://p6.hostingprod.com/@chaadthom..._kit4_2012.jpg http://p6.hostingprod.com/@chaadthom..._kit1_2012.jpg (yes, I know my front tire is on in the wrong direction, but stretching that thing on was such a PITA, I'm over it!) |
Chaadster, you have to look for RV parking spaces for that rig?
Very cool, by the way! |

Just picked this up at a LBS here in Germany. Looks to be a spin off of the BOB but with two wheels. Too soon to tell yet for durability, but feels solid and tracks straight and smooth...we'll see after a few hundred miles.
Here's my rig at work. '08 RH SS/rigid/hybrid-sorta-thing... http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=252880 |
I put some multicolor/multifunction LEDs on my trailer:

So I was driving by a nursery today and noticed the carts they have for hauling flowers. Has anyone thought about/actually converted one of these to a flatbed? I'd imagine it'd be pretty useful...

Avenir Cargo trailer
2 Attachment(s)
Here's my Avenir cargo trailer. I have had it for about 2 weeks now and made 3 trips to the grocery store so far. Each trip I hauled about 50 pounds, the trailer towed great with and without being loaded. Nice all aluminum construction and has a removable nylon canvas liner. 20" wheels. I did replace the clamp style hitch with the Michelin Avenir axle mount.

Just made a new hitch for my bike. the old one was worn out. Since its so bumpy and hilly here I tried to make it with some built in shock absorbtion. Seriously unloaded at over 10 mph the trailer can bounce five or six inches in the air. Cornering is interesting as it bounces sideways:p The springs don't help with that, but they do dampen the rougher landings.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8017/7...a4997cb0_h.jpg Since today I had a bit of a back of the axle weight issue the bigger spring is on the bottom. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8003/7...45ace29d_h.jpg |
