I suspect that provided that the surfboard is mounted horizontally [flat], that sideways loading from the bow-wave and wake shouldn't be much of a problem. If the surfboard is mounted vertically [on its side edge] then I suspect that that sideways loading from the bow-wave and wake will most likely be a problem. Do you make trailers for business? Because it surely wouldn't be too hard to create a lash-up and do some experiments.

It would probably advisable to mount the surfboard no higher than immediately above the axles.

Alternatively, you could try getting Mythbusters to have a look at it? You'll need some friends to propagate an urban myth.

With 100 pounds of shelving for my shop... loading it was harder than towing it as the legs are pretty good but the back sucks.

What kinda trailer is that? Old kid Carrier?

It is a re purposed MEC trailer that I got for free, had to buy the hitch arm for $20.00 and swapped in better tyres.

Removed the top and turned some of the internals bits into the silver press bar you see... there is a 100 litre tote that drops right in and the press bar is what keeps it in place and it can be taken in and out in about 15 seconds.

I also have a single Chariot trailer that is intact with all it's covers... it is is good when I take the dog out as if it rains she is sheltered (and also shaded) and also has a nice suspension.

Well it is beautiful! I have never had a bike trailer before and I'm on the lookout for a kid carrier for sale in my area to convert into a trailer.

The conversion may have taken an hour... as I also have a closed trailer I wanted one that would be better suited to carrying bigger things like that load of shelving. With the tote on the back it is excellent for shopping in any weather as it is watertight and still leaves a good deal of room in front of it for my cooler should I be picking up things that need to stay cold / frozen.

Boy am I slow, first time I finally showed a picture of my bike on here. :P

Hitch was pre-made, came with the trailer. The flag was of my own adding. The trailer weighs 15-20 pounds empty, it can hold up to 100 pounds. Despite it being a kid trailer, I often haul cargo in it.

Maximum capacity!

With this I can do my 2 kids and a schoolmate, or just the two and a cooler, blanket, ball, and all the fixin's for a riverside picnic.

Or about 6 cases of wine when I get the chance to run an in-town delivery!

Just picked this up at a LBS here in Germany. Looks to be a spin off of the BOB but with two wheels. Too soon to tell yet for durability, but feels solid and tracks straight and smooth...we'll see after a few hundred miles.

New 6' Flatbed trailer. Still need to put bungee holes in, and paint it.

Both. It started out years ago as one of those plastic tub child-carrier thingies. I cannibalized parts from it to make a cargo trailer years ago. When I moved to Arkansas I brought the hardware with me, and now I've used them to create a 4' and a 6' trailer so I swap the hardware back and forth. The 6' one is for hauling lumber. The 4' one has since had bungee holes put in, and has been painted - the 6' one is next.

So I was driving by a nursery today and noticed the carts they have for hauling flowers. Has anyone thought about/actually converted one of these to a flatbed? I'd imagine it'd be pretty useful...

Avenir Cargo trailer
 

Here's my Avenir cargo trailer. I have had it for about 2 weeks now and made 3 trips to the grocery store so far. Each trip I hauled about 50 pounds, the trailer towed great with and without being loaded. Nice all aluminum construction and has a removable nylon canvas liner. 20" wheels. I did replace the clamp style hitch with the Michelin Avenir axle mount.

I read something about where a guy did that to a kid's red wagon. I think the biggest change he did was take off the pull-handle and add a seat post trailer tongue, though it could probably be done with a rear-axle tongue as well. I tried to look at it just now but my browser said there was a virus on the site so I couldn't check and see everything he'd done. I'd really like to do that to the wagon I have, it's somewhat larger than a kid's wagon, and it was in the fashion of a covered wagon (but not the right colors). The cover was waterproof but it's now torn, so I'm itching to make a new one out of a white tarp to make it more realistic, it'd make a great bike trailer if I knew exactly how it was done, considering it can hold 250 pounds, which is 100 pounds more than what the average Radio Flyers can carry.

Just made a new hitch for my bike. the old one was worn out. Since its so bumpy and hilly here I tried to make it with some built in shock absorbtion. Seriously unloaded at over 10 mph the trailer can bounce five or six inches in the air. Cornering is interesting as it bounces sideways:p The springs don't help with that, but they do dampen the rougher landings.

This trailer started it's life as a three wheeler called a roadrunner. It was too small to ride but it made a good trailer. I used air connectors for the quick release connected to a wheel castor minus the wheel. I left the seat, it was easy to cut up a couple baskets to fit around it. I have a BOB trailer I always seem to have overloaded. This should carry more weight. Everything I used was parts I put together from the vast collection of junk in my basement. Real happy how this turned out, rides great. It's just too hot to try out a heavy load yet.

I love the connection you came up with on the rear rack! The ones that clamp never seemed to work for me, especially when my kids were smaller. Wish I would have thought of this when they were smaller, they all ride on their own now. Nice job!

I modified an old Burley trailer. I was going to modify it the way Adamdz did his, but took the easy way out.

I used leftover plywood and paint to make a flatbed, bolting it to the frame. I added t-nuts and bolts to hold the bin on. I can easily remove the bin if I wish.

My second trailer. I like duck hunting and I know there are places to go that are 6-7 miles into a motor less area. Thought it might be nice to be able to take a boat into those places.
