Kool Stop Original trailer issues

Hello all,

I just got a Kool Stop original from a friend. The trailer has a center mount hitch that attaches to both sides
of the chain stays. Problem: On my Schwinn, the mounts are too far in causing tire clearance issues. On my K2, the mounts interfere with the shift cable.

Is there an alternative mounting system? Perhaps to the axle bolt? A single arm as opposed to the dual?
