Neither I nor my equipment are up to 400-lb loads. That's amazing!

Rode to Wal-Mart on the green Magna to return the 26 x 1&3/8" tube that I didn't need for the Huffy Strider. No photo. Nothing remarkable. About a 16-minute round trip with the return.

My Spousal Unit (also known as Beautiful Woman, Sexy Lady and Wonderful Wife) broke a spoke on her way to school yesterday, and I discovered tooooooo late that I do not have a freewheel tool to fit her freewheel... so it was into the trailer with the wheel and down to the bike shop to get them to pull it for me. 17 mile round trip. Not much weight, though.

Exclamation Mechanical failure.

Rode up to Home Depot to get another cut-off disc for my new grinder, and another light for the basement. Ended up buying an LED light bulb that was on sale for under $10. Rolled behind Target, Home Depot, and Petsmart just to see what was back there. I like that Biopace crank setup.

Found a clean reusable shopping bag before my chain broke. You can see I-675 and the overpass in the background in the first photo. It broke just to the left of the overpass when I was getting to the shoulder of the road from the grass.

No big deal. I was about a mile from my house. The last 1/4 mile I just coasted to my driveway. I knew the chain was in really poor shape...still a nice little ride.

Took my fixed gear downtown to do my banking and pay some bills and then came home and hitched up the trailer so I could pick up some new shelving for my shop... was good for about 100 pounds but I only live a few miles from the store.

Back in the saddle again.

Yesterday put a good used chain on the Specialized. I'm not good with the chain breaker yet, but managed. The handlebars need some light sanding and paint, so I rode to Lowes to get some semi-gloss black Rust-O-Leum. I like the display porches, they were about the only thing that I could see that I could lock up to...

Also stopped at Advance Auto to get a jug of 10W-40 and a filter for my wife's van. Changed the oil this evening also. Bike already unlocked in the photo.

got a trailer recently, took it out for the first time.. 40 lbs of kitty litter, another 20lbs or so of groceries on the rack. surprisingly bike still handled very well. i will need a smaller chainring for much heavier loads i think though

Took my bike down to the shop today for a tune up, and planned my route so I could stop at Goodwill and drop off my spring closet cullings, and also an old bathroom scale. The dude at the donation window's eyebrows disappeared when I pedaled up with a tower of boxes on the back rack of my bike. Didn't think to get a picture, though. Then I walked back home (3 mi) and stopped by the grocery outlet to get some staples and also by the mailbox place, and there was actually stuff that wasn't junk mail in my box. Amazing!

Then I got peanut butter chocolate chunk ice cream in a waffle sprinkle cake cone to eat on the way back. A net gain for the day!

Picked up a donor bike at work over the weekend and decided I wanted to work on it on my day off. The fork dropped in the rack pretty well and was cross-strapped up with toeclip straps, zip ties and a couple of wraps of electrical tape for good luck. Across the Narrows and 15 miles later, we arrived home to find that the luck was about the only thing holding.

Yeah, it looks good. It looks like someone tried to huck it. Naturally the shock is blown and both wheels have flat spots. When I started dissassembling it I found the bb is bent and the handlebars were tweaked a hair. Amazingly the LX drivetrain is spot on, so it was worth the trouble.

The new Trekstracycle took me on two utility rides today. This morning,I rode one direction of town searching thrift stores for a decent kid sized sleeping bag for the son and picked up a DVD to watch tomorrow, and later this eve,he and I rode the other direction to Kmart and bought him a new one. Hauled 1 sleeping bag,2 camp pillows, and EIGHT gallons of water

Does dropping a son at school count as "utility riding"?

Rode with Nick to school this morning, and will pick him up this afternoon (with a good fast 15+ mile lap of town in between)

Today I took my pannier along with me on my training ride. It was windy and rainy, with thunderstorms expected later, so I had on my hi-viz waterproof windbreaker over my jersey and put on my waterproof helmet cover. The "training" ride was short, shaking out my legs from my week of commuting (I work 6 nights on, 8 off) but I ended up having some unexpected sprint drills due to road construction on the highway, one of which necessitated starting from a dead stop uphill. Still managed to get up to 15 mph by the top, couldn't have done that two months ago! It's always exciting to have concrete evidence of improvement.

Then I went into town to check my mailbox, and stop by the used food store (my nickname for the local market that sells surplus close to the sell-by date) to pick up some canned food and mushrooms. Then I got to fight against the headwind and rain and go uphill with 20# in my pannier. I got dropped by a little kid on a SS Walgoose in a tshirt and shorts. I remember being that age and impervious to the elements.

Two trips in the heat after the Indy 500

Great Indy 500 today. Poor Sato!
Rode the Gary Fisher Montare to Walgreens to pick up a Rx for Jeannie, then rode the Schwinn to downtown Bellbrook to return a couple of library items. Went by the local high-end bike shop. Roger is a pretty nice guy who runs it.

The Sportster needs an alternator so I am just pedal-powered on two wheels this weekend.

With some saavy use-by date reading, you can get $100 worth of groceries for ~$30. It's awesome, but people definitely kind of give it the side eye.

That's too bad, I enjoyed his posts.

The weather's getting a lot nicer lately so I rode in to the office earlier to wrap up some loose ends. Brought some spare bike parts with me in the new trailer to drop off for a buddy. Followed up with a run to the local getrankemarkt for a rack of hefe but they were closed for some reason...
