Not sure how my wife will enjoy this conversation tho: "You remember how i said i needed a new bike, and you said ok? Well, it turns out i don't need a new bike, but can i buy one anyway?" I shall pick my moement there...
happy rolling

You need to be smart my friend, do things the right way. First you do the "new bike" thing , get the Mundo. Then you do the "oh by the way, somebody in Bkeforums told me to claim a new frame on the warranty" thing = two new bikes :thumb:. Then your wife might also be more understanding when you spent time on the interweb..:)

Maybe you need another few weeks to look for that paper saying you are the one that bought it new??

eggnoggbubble 06-23-09 12:35 AM

hahaha! oh dear, i already mentioned to my wife that i should be able to get a new frame, I'm a lot more honest than i am clever.....

she knows how much i hate driving tho', so i am hoping to sell the mundo idea on the basis of "kiddie-haulage without irate husband ranting about the environment while stuck in a traffic jam." She'll probably let me buy it just for the peace and quiet:lol:.

am still gonna pick my moment tho'......

eggnoggbubble 06-27-09 08:26 PM

picked my moment - i'd done a good job looking after the baby all day (which also meant wife wasnt all tired), and we were talking about my birthday next week, so this seemed like a good moment....

....and I got official approval! Ordered my mundo yesterday, I'm all excited. I'll be sure to post a review and some "look what i hauled!" photos once it gets here (could be a few weeks).

oh, and specialized are sending me a new frame for my sirrus, I'm just waiting for it to arrive at the shop. Pretty soon i'm going to have more bikes than i know what to do with, wayhey!

You're strange, but don't change. Post pics when your new bikes arrive! Maybe set up one of your bikes for your lady?

You're strange, but don't change.
I'm a little concerned that you came to that conclusion even on a webforum. But I am slowly coming to the realization that you are right. I don't think changing is an option, so I'm relieved you said not to. Pity my long-suffering wife.....

presumably if i wasn't strange I'd drive everywhere like everybody else. Nevertheless i am a little perturbed.

Sorry kid. I just always assumed from the first time I read your name and saw the picture you chose for your avatar. But if you read my posts you know I tend to jump to conclusions and am often wrong. So maybe you are normal. Haha, no, I... I don't really remember what I was thinking when I wrote that, but I'm sure it was meant as a complement. :)

eggnoggbubble 07-03-09 02:37 AM

no, you're probably absolutely right. No offense taken, given the present world we live in its probably better to be strange than normal. I will however point out that you called me strange on my birthday...

Short backstory:
I am a university lecturer but part-time I am involved in democratic education, which basically means letting children be free to spend their time as they please (play all day if they like). The evidence from democratic schools suggests this works brilliantly and graduates go on to successful and productive lives. But can I convince any of my friends of this??? (they are all school or uni teachers like me, and all have children) Nope, not at all. They just think I'm strange. I've recently become resigned to this, so your remark comes at a fortuitous time. I get the same looks when I talk about bicycling as a practical method of transport for the modern world. My friends just think I am strange, and they continue to drive to work (less than 2km for one friend in particular!!).

(Funnily enough tho, my students really listen. One girl says she's going to try bicycling to school.)

So no offence taken at all, it was just curious timing, for me.

my name and avatar are probably odd too, but that's just whimsy:p.

peace, love, democracy, and bicycles....

Happy birthday!

Bicycling is becoming more normal all the time. It's really taking off in DC, among all types of people, bikes everywhere. It will come to your city too but not without the pioneers getting out there and showing the way. Don't harass your friends, it might be strangers who you inspire to ride just by seeing you riding. Just being out there makes people's minds slowly slowly start to think "Hey that looks like fun!" or "I can do that!". More importantly it teaches drivers that bicycles are using the roads. The more people like you who are riding makes it safer for all of us and the more people who follow your example the safer the riding will be. Be very careful out there.

Bike are still a very small part of the traffic here but it is exciting to see people in business suits and/or high heels riding in the city as well as the busboys, hipsters, messengers and roadies. There are some kooks who haven't got a clue yet about safe riding, but they will learn or die I guess. I'm just real careful around other bikes now a days, but it's great to see them out there!

yeah, that's part of the realization I have been coming to recently - I can't change my friends' minds by hassling them (they're their own independant people and have to come to their own conclusions) so I will have to live with them thinking I am strange (about cycling AND education - and probably a bunch of other stuff too...). But seeing me out riding instead of driving might get other people thinking, and maybe riding, (my new mundo should turn some heads once it arrives), I'll be showing its possible - and fun!

and as numbers grow it'll get safer (its not too bad around here from cars, who are pretty respectful of bicycles, tho highschoolers riding motorbikes and big scooters add a somewhat unpredicable element)

funny thing is japan generally is very bicycle friendly, its okinawa that missed the boat and went the all-car route (forgive the mixed metaphor)

thanks for the words, all on my strange lonesome here, this forum reassures me other people have come to the same conclusions - bicycles are the way forward.
