I like where you're going with that. I agree with bugly that a trailer would be the most likely solution.

Back in the dark ages...
I used to put the lawnmower up on top of my rear Wald 535 rear baskets, lunch and a water cooler went in the front Wald 157 Giant delivery basket. FWIW the bike was a 1972 Schwinn Heavy Duty that was also used for newspaper delivery.
A trailer would probably be the easiest way to go. Convert a kid trailer, find a cargo trailer or build one using a ladder for a frame (it is somewhere here on this forum)
