Input on trailer modified for touring?

Hi all... we spent last weekend converting an old InStep baby trailer into something that could haul some cargo. A trip to home depot and about 6 hours of soldering, drilling, bolting, and zip-tying and we came up with this:

I am going to remove the PVC crossbeam and replace it with EMT such that the inside part of the skewers are inside the EMT... that should help with stability.

The real question is, will the 26" wheels mounted with quick releases hold up carrying 30-40 lbs of gear on a longish tour? We will be leaving in June for points northward, and would need to depend on the trailer for a good 2 months on the road.

So far, it seems to be holding up okay, and doesn't complain (actually rides better) with a 30 lbs load. It needs some road slicks instead of the old MTB tires - that's on the list too.

Anyone done something similar and can comment on durability, safety? Any suggestions?

I would think that for 30-40 pounds it should be fine as most kid trailers are rated around 100.

I'd suggest some 26x1.25-1.5 tires, inflated to probably 30-40 psi for that little weight. Maybe even as little as 20-25 psi. You want the tires to absorb bumps, not bounce off them.
