Bike Trailer for kid
My wife and I want to buy a nice bike trailer for our son but it is hard to choose which one. We tried out a friend's burley today and it was great but it is around $500. We would like to spend less. Suspension is nice in case we do rails to trails but not sure if it is a "must have". Any recommendations?

Burley
Which one were you looking at? Most of them that I have looked at are in the $350 range.
I have a Burley Tail Wagon on order and IIRC it was $350 with tax.

I have had great experience with Chariot trailers, but I know folks who are happy with their Burleys and Mountain Equipment Coop has their own brand that works well.
I have personally witnessed kids fall through the floor of a department store trailer.
I had a chariot cougar that is now 13 years old and still hauls kids daily - my cousin has it and has put thousands of miles on it after I put thousands of miles on it.

You can expect a whole field of answers...just like people's preferences on bikes. Some people scoff at any bike under $500 while others won't pay more then $100...same goes with trailers. I currently use a $100 walmart trailer for my toddler and she's fine in it. She plays with her toys and looks around. The build quality is that of a $100 dollar trailer, but it does the job very well and its brand new, so no fabric fading and its quite safe.

I found a decent Trek Transit Deluxe on CL for under $75. It had a couple tares and was missing the cover, but we don't often get rain. The kids love it and there is room for a few bags of groceries in the back. Folds up really nice.

suspension on a kid trailer and retails new for $500 or less, good luck on that.
German builders Tout Terrain makes a single wheel suspended trailer with a child carrying seat, .
Peter White Cycles is their exclusive Agent in NA.. I doubt its under that Budget.

Yes the Tail Wagon is for pets and my Bob Yak trailer is for cargo and it was just over $300, when I bought it. Burley makes a lot of different trailers. The Burley Bee lists for $289, others are more as you add options.

Here's a tip: Go to https://alerts.google.com and create an alert with these terms:
trailer site:locality.craigslist.org/bik
Substitute the word locality for your local chapter of craigslist.
It will send you mail when a new post comes up. I find lots of cool stuff this way.
I've used various different trailers and liked them equally well. I have a cheap steel one now, and I don't even notice the weight difference. Check out Target.

Kids outgrow trailers and car people sell them , bike people continue to find new uses for them.
