Surly Big Dummy with a 10 speed cassette - is it possible???

I am attempting to build up my Big Dummy with a 3x10 drivetrain. The problem is that shimano 10 speed rear derailleurs have this arm that extends towards the rear of the bike where you insert the cable and housing. This "outer casing holder" ends up being underneath the rear portion of the Big Dummy frame. The "outer casing holder" comes in contact with the frame which prevents the derailleur from moving freely and makes it impossible to install the cable and housing.

Anybody out there tried a 10 speed cassette on their dummy? Would switching to a sram drivetrain fix the problem?
