Recently took the Brooks imperial from my road bike and mounted it on my utility bike, a 2008 Jamis commuter 4. Now I'm wondering if that was a good idea. Seems to me a utility bike has to be a practical beater that doesn't attract thieves. Start bolting on high end components and the bike screams bolt cutters !!

Why the Regret? is the utility rig ridden the Most?

Perhaps take the thing off and lock it in a safe..
before they were hip, nobody really cared , now you can flip them on Ebay.

Around my area there is no one that would know what a Brooks saddle is and wouldn't believe that it cost more than a Wal-Mart bike anyway. You don't post where you live, so maybe there is, or maybe there isn't any organized bike thieves that know to look for higher priced chunks of bikes. I've never had any problems with lights, computer, bungees, bottles, tools or even sunglasses being bothered on my bikes.

I think most bike thefts are a crime of opportunity.....it can be exchanged for a dime bag. It all depends on where you leave it and the chances of a crackhead getting away with stealing anything off of it. A CAAD10 or an Emonda is of equal value to anything from Wal-Mart when traded for crack or weed. They don't know or care how much what they seal is worth as long as they can trade it for a high.

I lock up my bike with the B17 on it. I ought to lock the saddle to the frame, because bike component theft is pretty bad in NYC. But I rarely lock the bike for long. As [MENTION=313910]gregjones[/MENTION] says, it depends on the neighborhood. It may not need to be a concern for you.

But you might be able to find something that is both comfortable and inexpensive. I have found some inexpensive saddles that are OK.
