I've never liked the idea of teaching the basics and then expecting drivers to learn more over time. That's like teaching someone the alphabet and expecting them to write poetry the next week. Once a new driver has finished driver's ed, they're mixing it up on the streets with no fewer responsibilities than anyone else... but they weren't taught well enough to understand that fact. Some newbie with a day-old license has just as much potential to damage or kill. If you could ensure that new teenage drivers learn everything about driving that the safest, smartest 40-year-old drivers have figured out, don't you think things would improve? |
