Where to stay along Galloping Goose and points beyond~Sooke, Jordan River....

Hi, I'd like to do the galloping goose, and my husband really wants to do it. But where to stay that isn't expensive, cheezy, doilly covered etc..? I am not up for camping which may sound silly, but I never ever ever can sleep when camping so end up feeling terrible which equals no fun. I know Victoria has a hostel or two. I'd like to bike out to the juan de fuca, wondering if there are alternative routes than the highway?

Depending on what you consider cheap, this place might not be too bad - http://www.cycleinn.com/Cycle-Inn/Home.html - and you can't get any closer to the trail.

What do you mean by "juan de fuca"? The stait? Or do you have some place more specific in mind?

The Galloping Goose will get you pretty much to Sooke, but after that there's only one road. It's not overly busy but it hasn't got much in the way of shoulders and there are some ugly hills.

If you'd prefer to stick to trails, the section of the Transcanada trail near Duncan is pretty nice and they've just refurbished the Kinsole trestle so you can get all the way from Shawnigan Lake to Lake Cowichan on the trail.

Check further down in this forum for descriptions of other rides on Vancouver Island. You can do a number of loops from Victoria with very little riding on busy roads.

It's too bad your not interested in camping, your choices are severly limited. You get alot of cheap Motels, but then there's those B&B's that charge you way too much for a bed, then the breakfast is a sad joke. At least with camping your accomodation's are created by you. I've toured on the Galloping Goose (& Lochside Trail) numerous times as well as up Island and the Gulf Islands. Mostly I'll camp but if it's late in the season I'll find Motel's along the route on the Net.
Here's some pic's from our 2010 tour to Sooke..........

I live very close to the Lochside trail in Victoria which is an extension of the Galloping Goose. We could probably help out with accommodation for a couple of nights if you'd like to get in touch via a direct message.

Just found this forum tonight and really looking forward to exploring it and joining in. Will complete the introduction section shortly.
