Camelbak for Winter
 

Tips I am too cheap to buy a winter Camelbak. I like to ask what ways could i make my summer camelbak good enough to handle in cold temperatures? e.g. -20C etc

What suggestions do you all have to try to convert or even put something on the hose as well? thanks

When you wrote "hose" made me assume you're talking about the backpack style Camelbak, not just a water bottle.

Oversized coat and wear it inside the coat? Wrap the hose in something insulating like the foam used to insulate water pipes?

I bring a thermos of hot tea with me on my longer rides in the winter. I don't tend to go over 20 miles (30 tops) when it's cold enough to freeze the water in my bottles. At the turn around spot on my ride, I stop and have the tea with whatever food I brought along. It's easy and cheap.

If you want to keep it external, you need to devise some kind of insulated outer covering - maybe put it in a larger backpack lined with some type of foam insulation, and throw a couple of chemical heat packs in with it?

Buy an insulated hose cover?

Wear it under your jacket. Right on top of your base layer works best. Put insulation foam on the hose and blow back after drinking to minimize water on the hose. And also fill it with warm water.

If you want to wear it outside of the jacket, it will freeze. Blowing water out of the hose, wrapping the hose in insulation etc... helps, but it will still freeze. Even won under the jacket it may freeze, but it will take longer.
