I'm not minding the snowlessness. :-) Yesterday I was on the summer/road bike and passed a couple of roller skiers. I feel for them...mostly....

Most of the route is on the lake and it is suppose to be 40° tomorrow and mid thirties all week. I just hope it stays frozen.

love it when it come down hard
dug out Wifey's snow tires last night. both had the day off so we were able to get them mounted right down the street from us
been wrenching tires today. had to order new fenders for the bike getting the wider studs. not only are the tires wider but the studs stick out pretty far too. squeezed these Riddlers in on another bike but the clearance under those fenders is so small ordered new fenders for that bike too. tires on the right might be from the '90s

With the heat wave coming I'm a little worried that the lake is going to be thawed to the point that they will cancel this : Waconia Brewing Company | WBCUpcoming Events | | ?Does this Fat Tire make my Butt look Skinny?? Fat Bike Ride

I think the lakes will be all right. They've got quite a bit of solid ice on them. Even though the highs aren't looking good for the top layer of ice, it looks like the nights mostly drop below freezing. I think the biggest concern will be wet ice. Do you have studded tires and fenders and waterproof shoes? :-)
Studded tires, and I have some Wölvhammer boots, so I hope they are waterproof. Worst case Ontario I have some waterproof socks. I think that is what my wife will have to wear as she doesn't have waterproof shoes. And the standing water is really our big concern. Neither of us have fenders though.

Riding in the snow in New England can be fun. Or should I say usually is fun.

This thread posted 12/8/17 at 12:49 PM is self-renewing, since another major snowstorm is predicted for this evening (2/12). I wanted to ride to work for the first one on 12/8, but,
She usually chides me with “You just want to ride today so you can write about it to Bike Forums.” So tomorrow morning we may well be within the throes of another snowstorm, with the plows out in force, So I may ride in this afternoon (which I was going to do anyways) and stay over again.

Right now it’s about noon in Norwood, and the roads have a nice layer of hardpack snow, perfect for studded tires.
My wife said “Nyet” to riding to work this AM, though I would have ridden on dry, traffic-light roads early this AM before the snowfall, so I stayed over at work. Her main fear is the snowplows...

…I have been riding a bike for transportation purposes in New England winters for almost 40 years now. A few things I've observed during that time:
…#5) Snowplow drivers are superdangerous. Don't mess with them. They have often been driving the plow in horrible conditions without sleep for 24-48 hours and are soused in coffee and possibly worse and they may not be able to discern whether your reflectorized vest and blinkie is an alien spacecraft landing or the beginning of a migraine headache but the last thing they'll expect it to be is a bicyclist.
