Ice Ice Baby !
Back out on the ice trails but with no crash today. I just can't get over how different the woods are during winter. I'm super glad I made the decision to get a bike that was more compatible for winter riding. Sure beats riding the trainer indoors. Might go look at studded tires tomorrow, but not sure if I want to pull the trigger on a pair this season.

Love the ice. I'm envious. How thick was that part you rode over toward the end? Do you worry about breaking through? I had my front tire drop through some ice once going across a puddle. That didn't end well for me. |
I think my feelings while watching this video can be shown through interpretive emojis ...
:popcorn  :twitchy: :thumb: Those studded winter tires for 27.5+ are expensive! But in your area they would probably never wear down. I'm thinking you have to grab a pair during an end of season sale. Maybe find a cheap pair of treads and try the diy studded tires? Quote:

You could have ridden up the ice path with studs. If you must, wait for a sale, but you will not regret them. This is my third winter with them and they are a game changer.

Don't be afraid to spend on a good quality studded tire. Because it's not just the studs, there is also the rubber compounds that allow the tire to flex nicely in cold conditions, and the tread pattern for traction and shedding of the snow. I'm riding 38mm 45NRTH Gravdal tires that are 120 tpi, and I can often feel them conforming to the uneven packed snow and ice on my local streets. I |
I'll pick up some new rims and mount studded tires on them so I can switch out wheels depending on conditions. I visited the bike shop the other day and will get them for next season because this season is coming to an end.
