PSA: Don't clean your shoes by smacking them against your seat stays

This spring marks the close of my ninth winter bike commuting from St Paul to Minneapolis. Last Monday I did a thing that I have never done before.

I have a habit of smacking my shoes on my seat stays to get the snow off of them. I am talking about the snow that piles up when I smash my way through a snow bank or whenever I am riding through snow deep enough that my shoes dip into it at the bottom of the stroke. I unclip one foot, smack it on the seat stay, and then unclip the other, and smack it.

Well, my foot got stuck in my spokes.

It happened really quickly, and the fact that the road was icy saved my foot and my wheel because when the wheel locked up everything just slid.

You've been warned.

I don't do it against the the stays; I smack them on the pedal before clipping in.

yeah iíll switch to something like that. Problem is my bikes are fixed gears so itís easier to aim for something thatís not going round and round.
