19f today, 7 wind chill. Seems balmy compared to some though. Nothing beats getting off the bike and almost falling because you can't feel your feet!

I will play but not just yet. It’s way to early in the season for me to play. I only live 17 miles from Saranac Lake, NY, One of the coldest spots in the lower 48 states.

Don't give up now winter has not even started.

I think Zin, is just waiting for the right day to post his cold temp.

I suspect that this will quickly turn into a form of chest thumping competition. Were not done yet, as I see it, we've just begun.

supposed to be -15 here <temp not wind chill> I might have to go bust off a mile just to see if I can w/ the tires shattering under my weight at that temp.

Or maybe not... we will see what the morning brings. It is 2 below now.

Agree !! I'd much rather ride in mild (55-65°F) weather. Sure, it's a challenge and a sense of accomplishment when you ride the commute on a 0° morning. Yeah, I'm psyched for tomorrows 5° so I can test my new boots.

But after a week or so, it's a drag. My comment to a co-worker who was just in awe that I'd ridden in this morning (10°) was "It takes me half as long to get prepped in the morning as it does to ride". An I need more time at the other end to strip down and arrange my crap so it dries. Plus I worry about mechanicals, lighting, blah, blah, blah.

I continue cause its a challenge, for the health benefits and it helps me maintain some sanity (I think).

This morning it was -5.3F at 7am. According to the news site we hit a low of -15 here in Ames so my thermometer may be erring on the high side. Anyway it was -3F when I rode off for work at 9am. 6mi in -3F--no problems.

I agree with dobber, it takes about as long to suit up as to do the ride...I very much enjoy the challenge, and the bike trails are wide open now although I did see another cyclist this morning!

I'm pretty much where you both are at, except I like it all the way up to 90F.

My coldest this season was -26 C or -15 F.

My coldest ever was -44 C or -47 F, with the windchill it was like -56 C or -69 F. This was in 2003, Yikes. Two or Three layers on all parts of my body was just enough to stay warm. I would like to go colder one day but I have yet to experience that cold again.

-1F (that's -18C) on my cyclocomputer this morning.

I was wondering what Gojohnnygo got. My route is lakeshore so likely to be quite a bit warmer than his.

Whiteface Mountain was where I was exposed to my coldest temperatures ever (on skis, not a bike though). -30F with 30+mph winds = -97F windchill. Brrrrr. The pain of the lift rides was worth the empty mountain, sort of.

Somewhere along the way it dipped down as low -8F to -13F. You know what sucks about my ride to work, It's mostly downhill. Brrrrrrr. oh well, I got the gear and I had fun on my first of the season sub-zero rides.

There is a reason why the locals call it Ice face. You do know we have a 8 person gondola now. With the temps we have now you can bet the snow making is nonstop. We have lots new snow guns running on the mountain

You should come back up and ski.

Ranger, are you riding with no goggles? I did my first couple of years in sub-zero temps. I had no problems. Then I tried them and now I can't go back the eyes just start tearing up way to fast at any temp below 20F.

Never mind I just saw the "Any Naked Eyes" thread. Sorry

I'm up there every year at least once. I'll probably be back in February although possibly in January. I know about the gondola and it was nice to ride in to get out of the elements for a little bit. That really cold day, all the good runs started at the summit though. Pretty soon I'll start hitting the Whiteface homepage every day looking for trail openings and new snowfall.

0F last night. I had a longer ride, d>10 mi, when it was about 10F. So, a new low this fall season. Still, I'm only in the high minors in comparison to the cold warriors in more northerly locations above.

Yesterday, according to this weather history, I was out at 6:50am - 10.9* F real temp. We've had lower if you include windchill.

https://www.wunderground.com/history/...q_statename=NA

That's for my 9 mile ride into work. It's cold but when you're peddling and dressed properly then it's not bad.

My two day history can be found here-- https://www.erh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClic...x=16&map.y=248

I had the joy of riding in –22F temps for my commute today. We even made it on the NBC Today Show, for one of the coldest temps in the US.

Blast right on past old man winter,

Johnny
