Sidi Toasters
I have these on order:
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=255097 They should come into my LBS this week. They're charging me $250. Sidi Toasters: $250 Warm toes on daily winter rides: Priceless The anticipation is killing me. I feel like Donny Rumsfeld waiting for that first Star Wars Missle Defense Satellite to come online. I'll post my findings here. And yes, I realize that I need to get a life. |
They look awesome. I'd like to hear how they work below freezing. Big $$$, if I bought them they'd have to warm up more than my feet.
BTW - it's hard to concentrate on life when your toes are cold |

I've had the Toasters for a week or so...
...and have said that they do the job just fine. I would say that when I've had them in w/ cotton socks and no booties, the effect was on par with riding with wool socks and full booties. So if NY ever sees some cold temps, I expect my feet to be fine with the Toasters, woolies and booties down to ~10* or so. But then other body parts will suffer.
Happy riding. |
MINUS TEN DEGREES? You're tougher than me. My absolute limit is 15º, and generally I won't go if it's below 20º - occasionally we'll roll out in the high teens if it's warming up (early AM ride for example). But my feet can get cold in much warmer temps than that - on a damp day that can happen above 40º.

Not negative, but approx...
Sorry... the " ~ " symbol is typically used for approximate values, not " - " for negative. I'm not crazy!
;) |
If you're riding when it's 10º, you're crazy. At 15º my iPod froze : ).

Cheers. I've been hearing about how riding with music is deadly for 17 years now. That's was 100K road bike miles ago. Open ear headphones (like iPod earbuds), moderate volume levels - no problem. I've had conversations with cyclists next to me while the music is playing. Approaching cars, other noises of danger are much louder than that. |
