Fogging Glasses
 

Does anyone have any suggestions for fogging glasses and/or goggles. I had hoped that the goggles would allow me to actually cover my mouth as I ride (my tongue and teeth are getting awfully cold), and they help, but after about 5-10 minutes even the goggles get fogged up. I'm fine as long as I don't keep my mouth covered, but that sucks, you know?

Oh, I'm in Minnesota, and right now it's been below zero all day for at least 6 of the last 7 days.

Have you tried cat crap (amazon has it if your LBS dosn't) or dish soap on both sides of the lens yet? That normally works for me, but at long lights I generally still take off my glasses or goggles to keep my breath away from them.

If you have something covering your mouth that does not vent below the chin then no matter what you do you will et *some* fogging when you are stopped.
With a full facemask and goggles I apply Cat Crap to the inside of my goggles and that lasts for a few rids and does better than anything else I have tried, but when I stop the fogging begins so I usually life or drop my goggles for a minute.
I recently picked up a venting balaclava that helps out ALOT though.

you're supposed to get cat crap from amazon? no wonder my cat hates me :eek: just kidding.. what i do if its not too cold is pull my mask up so it reveals the bottom of my chin, that way all my breath is forced down and away. i also pull my glasses a few mm off my face so the heat from my face doesn't fog them. my neck/chin are a lot less susceptible to cold than my cheeks/lips/nose/ears/eyes. someone should make a non-restrictive mouthpiece for balaclavas that forces your breath down and away. i've heard of restrictive ones for lung building but one that doesn't restrict at all would be nice

I use a neoprene face mask that has holes to breathe through. A little constricting but exhalations don't go up to glasses.

I have the same problem. I have tried a few products, but not cat crap. The best still seems to be shaving cream. It just takes a little bit, smear it on then lightly buff it out until you can see through your glasses or goggles. It works great on the bathroom mirror as well.

are you useing ski goggles? i have herd of some sort spray type stuuf that you just spray on and it helps with foging problems but i have never tried it

I don't know if this works in Minnesota, but in California I've found that my glasses only fog when I stop.

I've found it's not due to my breath. It has something to do with the heat from my face and the air no longer circulating so that the outside of the glass is cooler than the inside.

All I do is slide my glasses down my nose a bit whenever I stop. Problem solved. At least when it's 30F. I don't know about 70 below zero like in Minnesota.

i havent been wearing them. when my face mask is on it seems to deflect my breath into my eyes. odd but its been fine down to 12F

You can get fog free lenses. Google "safety glasses". I think you can also get a spray.

The problem with that is that if I take my glasses off, I can't even see the light change. I mean, I can kinda see the color change, but not well enough to really judge. My eyesight without my glasses is VERY bad.

Not yet, though I've tried some little wipe cloths which are supposed to be anti-fogging. They help, but not enough. I'll try the Cat Crap, as soon as I remember to pick some up.

I use a pair of industrial safety specs, and part of their specification is anti-fogging. So far I have had no problems. I don't think it is any special coating but rather a good ventilation system on them...

I have the mirrored for summer and the clear for night or winter. They look quite sylish as well, without the Oakley price! I am constantly plauged with watering eyes, no matter what the weather, these do stop the problem. Also... in the UK we use a combination of rocksalt and grit on the roads in winter and sometimes the cars will throw this stuff up.... these just give me a bit of peace of mind as regards a peice hitting me in the face.

I used to use something that my optician gave me to prevent fogging. Can't recommend a product, but maybe try your opticians.

I put shaving cream on the inside of my Uvex Supersonic S goggles then wipe off and they have not fogged up this winter at all.
