I've started riding my Moonlander to get my legs ready for winter. The first time out I noticed that the stock external bottom bracket cups had completely seized and needed to be replaced. The interface between the bearings and crank for that style of bottom bracket doesn't seem ideal. The axle and crank arms rest against a plastic liner and will still turn even if the bearings won't move.

Bikes: Specialized Tarmac Expert, 2002 TREK 520, Schwinn Mesa WINTER BIKE, Huffy Rock Creek 29er, 1970s-era Ross ten speed. All my bikes are highly modified(except the Tarmac) yet functional, and generally look beat to ****. .

Made some changes to the cranks, gears, handlebars, grips, seatpost, and shifters.

I also picked up a pair of Surly Nates for this winter, the On-One Floaters are not to special in the snow.

Some changes since mye last post ^^
When I went to my LBS for picking up the new bike, I got an offer on this years top model that I just couldn`t resist.
Same frame and fork, but Ultegra and fulcrum racing 5 instead of 105 and racing 7. On the back side I now got canti instead of disc brakes.
8,9 kg vs 10,2 kg was also an big plus.
Picked it up on friday, and have rode it for 130 km now, and WOW am i happy with it.
Feels really fast and turns are amazing.

-13°C during yesterday's ride. Looking like -20°C for the ride tomorrow morning. This path is part of my daily commute.

This is my 2d winter on this bike; currently running continental winter contact tires but I'll be mounting up studded tires soon. The commute this morning was 18 degrees and it won't be much better on the way home tonight. The frame cost me $30 and the parts mainly came out of my parts bin:

This years winter bike will be a 1995 Triumph Ravine built by Raleigh Canada and purchased at a yard sale this fall for $20.
Shown yesterday, just off the Lynn Valley Trail. Much cooler today!

My winter bike is the my summer bike, and it's my commuter. I use 23mm training tires all season, currently Continental GP 4000S.

Just need to install fenders, looking at Portland Design Works, or SKS Long if can find one.

Just finished my new old Schwinn Sierra for winter commuting. Studs on the front, Brooks Pro and an old Moots Ti handlebar.

I found the rack at the local bike co-op last summer. No idea what brand, only know that someone donated it. Very handy to have and looks awesome on the bike.

I decided my bike needed a new chain while I was switching it to winter gearing:

This my other R20... a '73 that is pretty much stock save for alloy rims and some improvements to the brakes... and the Marathon Winter tyres.

Forrest takes the winter off these days.
