I did several winters of winter cycling in Winnipeg when I lived there, including snowbiking, commuting, and the century-a-month challenge in 2003.

Yah, you're right about the new 'walk your bike' policy on the Assiniboine (Ass) Park footbridge. Btw, a few years ago I was in a Wpg based endurance bike race called the Red Assiniboine 300 ... "Red Ass" for short! Very appropriate after 300 miles of gravel and dirt trail riding in 30 hrs!!
Btw, thanks for the posting a link to my video and the comments. I wanted to capture riding the contrasting seasons and show that you can enjoy biking in Winnipeg all year!
I have glanced at some Bike Forums links before, but now I have signed up and am impressed at all the good discussion threads. Thnx for making me aware 'Bain19".

Awesome vid! I must say this about the Winnipeg riders I've met, both by going to their events and them coming to ours, that they are a very cool group of people. Down to earth, fun, and revel in a hard challenge (seem to like long races on SS bikes).
Also that vid makes me want to give IceBike a try, I can never quite get up the gumption though to drive 1000km across the prairies in February!

Hello there in Regina. You are so right about the hardcore group of SS and Endurance bikers here in the Winnipeg area. Mind you when we visit events out in Sask we see some of the same grit ... must be the harsh winters!
Speaking of racing in each others locale, I missed out due to sickness on the annual XC-8 endurance mtb race held this Sep at Buffalo Pound Park near Moose Jaw, but a large gang from Manitoba made it out to race and more than a few were SS-ers and several made the SS podium.
Ice Bike? Oh yah !! Seriously, make the trek to 'Winterpeg" in Feb and join the fun. This year's race saw 120 racers ride in only -5 C temps around a very cool course. Check out the video I made with my then brand-new helmet cam: Ice Bike Race 09 - Video Collage
