Winter riding jacket

I just recieved my J&G rain jacker today. It was raining when I got out of work this morning, my jacket arrives in the mail, the rain stops. Go figure.

I haven't even had a chance to use it, and already I love it. It is going to become my winter riding jacket. I used an L.L. Bean windbreaker all last winter with acceptable results. The J&G has some features that my windbreaker didn't have. I believe that the J&G will be even better.

Quality wise the J&G is very well made. The seams and stitching seem to very high quality. Meets and exceeds my expectations.
I am looking forward to wearing it.

My J&G wind jacket is going into its 4th winter season now. I use a Burley Rockpoint for a rain jacket, or on those wet snow days.

Yeah, they'll see you, but man that thing looks like you'll bake in it. Does it have pit zips?
I have a vest with that same reflective tape pattern that serves double duty as my core outer layer.

No pit zips but I'll just be using it for my short commute to school when it's snowing and blowing and extra visibility is of the utmost importance. Otherwise I have a reflective sash that I wear over my waterproof outer layer and I rely on my lights and reflective tape, strips, bits, and material that I have all over myself and my bike to keep me visible.

can anyone recommend a winter jacket for less than $150? I need something for below freezing temps.

I wear craft baselayers, wool sweater, and a simple windbreaker. this works great down to about 32-35 degrees, but any lower temperatures (or high winds) and I am freezing. Besides adding another layer of insulation of wool or fleece, I am interested in a better jacket.

Any recommendations?

Its been said by many including myself here. Call Lou at www.foxwear.net. He custom makes jackets for around $85. I've had my E-vap coat for two years now and am starting my 3rd Buffalo NY Winer. It works fine on its own with just a T shirt under it down into to the Teens. In the low single digits (not counting wind chil) in a heavy windy day I'll put on an extra wind breaker layer. I don't recall what the material he used on my top. It is Yellow and slightly fuzzy. It sheds show and light rain without any problem. The main material is nearly 100% wind proof yet allows tons of moisture to pass out. Along the sides and the arms there is also a band of even more breathable materials. I may arrive at work warm and weating hard from the activity, but my coat does NOT get wet in any way. I LOVE these modern wind prood fleece products! I also bought his power shield pants. These are made of a smooth VERY water resistant material (black only). They are super comfortable and keep me warm down into the low single digits. On a very windy day when the (non wind chill) temp is close to zero (up to -26F) I will put on my rain pants to act as an extra wind barrier to stay warm. The two together cost me about $160, but they are the foundation for staying warm and comfortable from 40F down to 0F. As a side note Lou is great to talk to and will help you determine what materials will work best in you area for your riding conditions. You can also mention if you have any normal fitment issues. For instance are all XL shirts still to short in the arms... then he can adjust your clothing at no extra cost!

Happy riding,
André

+1, also ask him to add reflective material. Power shield, the material used, is the best by far.
