Pogies for the Feet
It seems like everyone that uses Pogies, Moose Mitts, etc think they are great. I was wondering if anyone tried something similar for the feet? I was thinking something along the lines of enclosed insulated clips that are wind/water proof. Maybe even long enough on the bottom to cover the bottom of the feet also or at least the bottom of the pedal.

I would think that there would be issues with moisture, slush, crap and crud. I mean you would be putting wet feet in to these foot pogies, which is going to introduce moisture, which would then freeze.
Pogies just have to keep the weather off your hands. When you put your hands in the pogies, they (your hands) haven't just stepped in a puddle, or have some snow stuck to them. Ain't sayin' I'm right, just my thoughts. |
Well, rarely would I be putting wet shoes into them. It is pretty rare that I ride in snow. My route to work is on main streets, so they are plowed and salted pretty quickly. The streets are actually usually dry. But, there are times when I am traveling during the storm, but my shoes usually stay pretty dry. That's for snow, during rain, of course they get wet. Usually there is no reason for my foot to touch snow, slush, etc.

I think the big problem here is crankshaft and ground clearance. It could be done but you have clearance issues plus safety issues of being able to get in and out of the enclosures.

I don't see any safety issues or clearance issues. It would basically be the same as clips and straps. Sure, clipless is safer, but clips and straps isn't that bad. There might be a tight fit on the inside part hitting the crankarms. Depending on your pedals/cranks you might have a tight fit there.

Hmmm, someone has tried it. I wonder how well it works. I might just have to do some experimenting.
