Transition Glasses..
I'm curious of how well transition lenses do during the winter? I'm thinking of getting a pair of prescription transition cycling glasses since I bike at day and night, but like to know how well they do.
Thanks. |
I'm using Rudy Project "Exception" glasses for riding and driving. This system has Rx inserts and snap-on/off outer lenses (they also flip up). I use the transition outer lens when its mostly cloudy and at night. They transition to about 50%-60%. I snap in the 90% lenses when the sun is very bright. I also use the amber outer lens for cloudy days. The frame is very comfortable, adjustable and rugged. Some of the outer lenses are impact proof.

I found that the transition took a lot longer when the lens was cold; and the colder the temperature, the longer the transition. It wasn't that big of a deal going from clear to tinted, but it really sucked when the sun would go down and I was stuck with dark lenses. As I recall it was really bad when the temp was below 15F, taking upwards of 20 minutes to de-tint.

Never had any issues with transition prescription lenses . . . wear them for daily use, including cycling in bright/sunny Arizona.

Thanks for all the replys. Maybe it's best to have transition for summer and etc, and just clean for Winter. I don't know yet, but we'll see.

My Transitions (progressive) lenses get dark as heck during sunny winter days. I don't think cold is a problem.
