Just sayin'. In my town I'm the only one. Went to the bike trails today and there were footprints in the snow but no tire tracks. People look at me in disbelief when I tell them I ride year-round. As far as I'm concerned, the only drawback to winter riding is having to wear so much clothing. Other than that it is great fun, and pedaling through snow is a good workout.

I haven't seen any tracks near me. Last weekend when I was riding around Fargo I saw some tracks for a short distance, but I've never seen the rider.

I ride year round and people think I am nuts, but there are quite a few of us, most of us do it because it is our only form of transportation. I have a car that I gave to my daughter when she turned 16 and havent looked back. I meet so many here that dont have other options than their bike.

Same here, plenty of riders when the weather is warm. But now I occassionally see an older fella on a road bike during the weekends but that is it.

The building set up a bike room last summer that's gone largely un-utilized. There are a couple of dozen cyclists that work in the building but most are either unaware that the bike room exists or would rather keep their bikes in their office suites.

To my surprise last night I saw 5 bikes in the bike room, - in the middle of January. Anyway there are quite a few year-round cyclists in Minneapolis. Some are less hardcore than others and will find other ways to work when the roads are particularly bad or the cold gets too extreme.

I see other riders on the trail some days. I'm almost never the first tire track in the snow.

There's always a ton of footprints. Nothing stops the regular walkers. And the joggers comes back out when it's been plowed.

Boise doesn't seem to slow down a whole lot, i still see a good number of riders out, then again right now it doesn't even feel like winter as its above 40f and raining

I'm out there. I was just arguing on here the other day about whether you should listen to the winter clothing advice from people who don't ride in the cold (but are more than willing to regurgitate advice from REI's website).

I did about ten miles on the mountain bike trails in about 3-4 inches of snow. There was a lot of rolling resistance. I was wearing snowboarding pants on my legs and several layers on my torso. When I got done I went to retrieve my shopping list out of my pants pocket and it was sopping wet. Temp was around 10 degrees F.

I'm happy to report I'm rarely the first bike track on the trail. There's a good handful of all season riders here - I attribute it partly to the city doing a very good job of keeping the trail open.

I'm the only year round cyclist here that I know of. I get such a kick out of the looks I get from the people in cars that pass by. Some look like I'm crazy and some look envious. It's so good to ride this time of year, the traffic is so much less.

great weather for riding home today as it warmed up quite a bit, only I just discovered how hard it is to ride in 4 inches of slush, that was crazy, but I love winter riding, still not sure if I am happy with my skinnier snow tires.

I don't see that many other people out on the roads when I'm biking, but I know for a fact there are at least three of us in my neighborhood alone. I think we must just keep different schedules.

To the best of my knowledge and belief, I am the only year round rider in my town. I haven't seen any one else on a bicycle since early Oct.

More every year, up here. Back in winter '01, I could go a week without seeing another cyclist. Now I'll pass a dozen other commuters a day on my route, and the Lady G'Cakes says that she sees about half of that on hers; and we only cover a modest amount of Anchorage between the two of us. I'd guess that there are at least a few dozen winter commuters (although they do drop off pretty quick when temps drop below 0F), and at least a couple of hundred recreational winter cyclists (the fat bike boom is big here, with two local fat bike builders in addition to the now ubiquitous Pugsleys).

This was from the pre-race meeting for a local ski/bike/running race a couple of weeks back, which saw over 130 cyclists:

I ride to work year round too, unless it's impossible, like the first day after the holiday snowfall in NYC in December, when I could hardly get out to the sidewalk. I see quite few dedicated commuters too. Although the numbers drop significantly when the temps get below freezing or when it's snowing. I'm never the only bicycle commuter even in the worst weather though.

I also run errands and do shopping on a bike in Winter too. I actually found it easier than stop-and-go driving in mad traffic.

As for commuting, I think I'm one of the only people who rides a multi-gear bike. I see dozens of people riding cruisers to the corner store, or wherever... but nobody else has lights, reflective anything, or any kind of serious bike setup. There's salmon everywhere, ninja cyclists everywhere... but in the local cycling club, strangely enough, I'm the only commuter.

Lemme tell you, it's 100% true. If they actually put in MUPs/lanes/sharrows in my town, I think I would die from shock.

I dont really care about the temperature outside, I have plenty of warm layers. If the roads are clear of chunks AND slush Ill go out, otherwise is just me and my techfluid.
