Warm gloves for big thumbs

Hi All, I'm looking for recommendations for cold weather biking gloves. I've been riding in the winter for a few years, but as my commute is not too long I've always gotten by with somewhat cold hands. I'm thinking of moving, and would have a much longer commute.

My problem is that I've got large hands, and very long thumbs (proportionally), which usually get a bit numb by the end of my daily ride if it's cold (granted, I live in Alberta, so when I say cold, I mean -35 to -40C). If I try to pack a bigger glove inside a large "shell" glove, it's too tight, and I feel that my thumbs become numb from lack of circulation rather than purely the cold! I've also tried thumb-less liners, but then my thumb gets cold.

I'm hoping to catch some winter clearance sales if I can, and upgrade my cold weather gloves--anyone have any recommendations? Or are there any other long-thumb people out there??

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and I forgot to add, I've tried the handlebar coveralls a few times, and don't really like the constraint there.

Have you tried heavy-duty ski gloves? Maybe a light knit glove inside a ski glove?
