After eight plus days, it looks like all of the participants have arrived in McGrath. Spending the night in -35f temps. They have a handful of riders and a few walkers continuing on to Nome. One of the riders, Lance Andre completed the 350 miles with a broken leg and a broken arm. Louise Kobin set a new female record to McGrath. You can read it all at the "Latest News" on the link.
Crazy bikin'. I could never do it, nor would I want to. Pushing a bike thru thigh deep snow for 40 miles is insane. I'll leave it up to the super-endurance racers. And I'll just read about it. But it does encourage me to ride in anything that my area throws at me. On the worst days I just think of these folks and tell myself that this is a walk in the park compared to "stuff" that they go thru. I only wish the Discovery Channel or someone like that would film this thing. That would be some good TV watchin'.
And yes the conditions were probably the best they've had since they started it back up. Very little pushing and a lot of riding.
Make that five time ITI winner Pete Basinger- "One of the best super-endurance riders that no one has heard of"
