why don't most bike jackets-even waterproof ones, have a hood. No matter how high necked they are, you still get water on the back of your neck

Because hoods cut down on your peripheral vision. Get yourself a helmet cover with a neck flap (performance or nashbar used to carry them), or one of them no'easter type rain hats Rivendell sells.

I have never had a problem with water down the neck using an LG helmet cover.:thumb:

I tried a hooded cycling jacket years ago;
It was absolutely worthless, unless you enjoy the excitement of not being able to see anything but straight ahead.:eek:

In my experience, cycling with a hood over a helmet is typically no problem as the back of most helmet designs will keep the front edges of the hood mostly out of your field of view. When I roll out with a hood and no helmet I get a baseball cap on. The bill keeps the hood from encroaching on your field of view.

I reckon if you've a really big hood and it's closing in on you while helmeted a MTB helmet with visor might help.

My Helly Hansen jacket has a drawcord in the back of the neck that can nicely draw the hood out of your peripherals also.

I know some folks roll with a hood under their helmet and I reckon proper tucking of hood under helmet straps would work in those instances.

I don't like an attached hood in any size shape or form. I solve the whole water down the back of the neck thing with a neck gaitor.
