Winter noob pleasantly surprised

Well, i made my first ever ride on Snow and Ice with a bicycle today and this fat old man was amazed at how stable my bike is with the Schwalbe Marathon Winters.. those 240 studs really do the trick. Maybe it's a false sense of security but I actually felt as if not more stable than I did on rubber and pavement.

Luckily I have only a short commute to work and a heated garage there to defrost the drive components.

I am enjoying all the good wisdom I am finding on this forum, keep it up!

Some argue that those freeze-thaw cycles actually accelerate things like corrosion on the bike/components. No heated garage for me so I can't verify - bike stays cold all winter!

I run a marathon winter up front and I love it in fresh snow and ice.

I don't love it in loose packed snow, deep ruts, or slush. Are you running 35s?

I find the studs work great on hard pack and icy bits but offer little advantage on roads with fresh snow that have been driven on a few times; tires can't decide where to go in the ruts!
