I know the devil's wearing a sweater today.

So I wake up this morning thinking, yup, I'm only at work for two more days (until I'm home playing Mr. Mom for 6 months with baby - who really sucks at staying in the saddle BTW...bloody six month olds). In any case. I figure there's only two days left, so I'm going to get two days of riding in. Then I hear the temperature on the radio and think...well maybe not eh?

So I'm driving in (counting my lucky stars that the car started) and start to head into work thinking I'd be completely stupid to even consider.......and then what do I see? Someone doing a morning commute!!! NUTFREAKINBAR.......If anyone has seen the movie "A Christmas Story" with the younger brother bundled up in his red snowsuit who looked like "a tick ready to pop", this was him BUT....he was doing it.

I guess I wouldn't have been so impressed if it hadn't been -22 DEGREES FAHREINHEIT and -45 FAHREINHEIT WITH THE WINDCHILL.

Just so nobody thinks I'm full of it, you can check out the link below. It's in Clecius though...just how us canucks like's it eh!?!?

That is scary cold! I've been riding when it's been below zero fahreinheit, but -22 may have even kept me indoors. Here's a shot from yesterday's ride. It was in the teens with some 20-30 mph wind gusts which is my coldest ride this year:

OH man, I soo wish the temperatures were reasonable today. We have some wicked areas like what you're showing here. That's awsome man. It's crazy 'cause I only ever really started riding this summer to help strengthen my left, newly reconstructed knee. Now I"m sick in love with it, road cycling especially but the trails around here forced me to pick up a Gary Fisher Tarpon (entry level for sure, but I'm no star) and his the dirt, stick and stumps as well. The best part? the cardio and leg strength: I just missed two weeks of indoor-dome soccer after a tweaking my knee just a touch and played on Friday, everything was there and it felt like I had packed a second set of lungs behind the first. It's awsome. Just looking at where you can see your front tire track swerve with each down peddle makes me want to saddle up and pump out a few good climbs.

DAMMIT.......now all I can think about is ridign....DAMN YOU !!!!!!

I went to school in Grand Forks, ND. We would get temperatures that would stay around the -30F range with windchills dipping through -60F for weeks on end. Snow was oftentimes knee-deep with a layer of ice on top and underneath. Classes were never cancelled and I commuted the two miles to campus by bike. Let me tell you, I do not miss those days.

Hey Ralphy....I can't get up. I can't get up!

It's a temperate -24C here in sunny southern ontario. I remember those Ottawa winters....now that's cold!

I guess I'm a NUTFREAKINBAR? I rode 13 miles to work at 3:00am with temps at -17F (-27C) Theres nothing like having your eye lashes frozen solid after just 2 miles of riding.

Really its not as bad as you think. The hardest part is getting out the door.

I like NUTFREAKINBAR I going to use that in the future.

I rode the past couple of mornings going home. This morning it was 14 F with a wind chill of 2 F. Tomorrow is supposed to be similar. I layer my clothes, and so far so good.

I think you're delusional. Those look like tyre markings in the snow.

Here I was all set to post how miserable it's been here in MN with the low temps high winds and no snow, and you guys spoiled it. D'Oh stupid bike forum.

Keep warm, the lowest I rode was -4 F, all the way home. I got mildly hypothermic I did try and get out in a -15 night, but my rear hub froze up on me and I had to get a ride home. I have a car so commuting is not like something I have to do in this weather, but I still will get out and ride in it.

I live just north of Winnipeg ( Winterpeg) Birds Hill area and don't dare to ride bike in winter. It is just too cold. I also have to ride 15 miles on the highways. Last winter we had some windchills that were below -50 and the cyclists were on the roads. I don't know how they do it. There was a picture in the Winnipeg Sun of a guy on bike in -50 temps. He said it wasn't that bad. I give credit to anyone that can ride in these conditions. Today and the next few days are going to be in the -35 to -40 range with windchills. Good luck to anyone riding these days.

Yup - just a tire track, although it did feel like someone was holding me back on that climb. Unfortunately, that person was me ...... again!

I agree with Snow Canuck(a fellow Winnipegger!)
I rode in this morning.
About a 45 minute ride from the South of the city center(Southdale area)
into a North wind at -39 c.
45 minutes turned into 1h 10min in granny gear hell!!!(frozen over that is!)

Thanks to brain freeze....I don't feel it anymore!!!
