A real rain jacket
I have purchased at least five jackets in the past years that purported to be rain jackets. They weren't close and all were a waste of money. I finally broke down and ordered a Showers Pass Elite 2.1 jacket. I had the opportunity to ride in a pretty good downpour this morning. The jacket was flawless. It kept me completely dry except for a little dampness on my jersey sleeves. I should made this purchase years ago. Below is the link to the jacket on the Showers Pass website. It's on sale now too.

I commute in cold rainy weather often and my good old Gore jacket is holding as new for five years and counting. On the expensive side, but 5+ years made it a good investment after all. I think it is difficult to beat goretex for cold+rain. If it gets warm, different story. |
[QUOTE=haphaeu;21415314]Would you mind sharing which jackets did not work? Were they not watertight enough? Or not ventilated enough (humidity build up in the inside)
All the jackets I bought were under $30, which may be the issue. And yes, none of the jackets were watertight enough or ventilated at all. |
I ride down to -10 degrees Celsius, the last winters are warm and dry, there is almost no snow. Warm socks, warm sneakers (I wear straps). Jeans with temobelem, jacket, jacket, helmet, gloves.

https://www.showerspass.com/collecti...nt=27453944645 https://showerspass.com/products/mens-transit-pant fyi - no need to size up. I sized up but I could have gotten my normal size, but these aren't too bad https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4019fe418d.jpg I like the bottom cuffs a lot https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cfb7d11bc3.jpg |

Has anyone ever used gaiters on their winter rides?
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0aa59af1b5.jpg Bike Gaiter (short) I sometimes use them while commuting, when it rains. Just a shame gaiters like these wear out quickly and that alternatives are often cycling shoe specific. |

No, or maybe yes. Because these share the name:

Winter Game Changers
These items have been worth the money to keep me comfy commuting down a winter. Single digits are tough when above 20 mph and not pedaling hard. Otherwise these are great additions the past few years. The Bar Ends alone are incredible (unless windy).
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...177c3dd27.jpeg Incredible. Barely need a warm glove of any kind unless below freezing and then still don’t need much. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...916b04b22.jpeg My version is a couple years old and going strong. Very comfortable and works well with my goggles in terms of lens fog control. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0734844c1.jpeg Like the Bar Mitts - total game changers. After years of covers, socks, other so-called high end winter boots- these did the trick. I use them for road biking commute in the winter. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7ddcaa215.jpeg Another super pricey item but amazingly worth the money. Comfortable, layers well, great with wind and precipitation on my freezing commute down the mountain. |
Awesome clothes. However mittens.. I tried use such but they never fit me well. I feel uncimfortable when I drive in them.

I also bought this jacket a year ago and I'm very happy with it

Funny thing is, for my fat bike the bar mitts I have, the 45 North Cobrafists, look incredible but don't work so well. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0078d7070e.png They are much more insulated than the drop bar Bar Mitts, but you can see that they have openings on the inside end of the bars, and so they leak in cold air. I have McGyvered them with bubble wrap and tape, and that makes them better. Funny design. |

I LOVE Australia.
Beautiful place. Aussies are cool. And the many critters, They’re cool, too. From a distance. |
Orion Ride?
With winter coming I was taking inventory of my winter cycling clothing. I really need to buy a few more pair of cycling pants and should probably get a jacket or two.
Has anyone here bought and used anything from Orion Ride? I have never heard of the company before but I have been getting a ton of advertisements from them lately. I'm mostly interested in getting feedback on quality. At the prices that the stuff is being sold for I wouldn't expect it to be as high quality as some brands but I would at least like to know if it's serviceable. On their Facebook page it states that the owners are "Shaanxi Zhilexin Technology Co., Ltd.," so definitely a Chinese company. Here are the jackets I am looking at https://www.orionride.com/collections/bike-outerwear |
I know cotton isn't normally riding garment material but if you can predict that you won't sweat much & it won't rain, a cotton t-shirt & sweatshirt are pretty comfortable
