Fatbike for winter commuting/riding? Use old hybrid?

Bought my pugs last year but there was so little snow, it was never the best bike to commute on (though the most frequent)... Thing is even with a fatbike, it's still nice to have a non-fat with studded tires for riding on icy days.
I'd recommend upgrading your current bike for this season and looking into a fatbike next spring/summer when you might find a deal. At some point the market should become saturated enough to see used fatbikes selling at the same fraction of retail that regular bikes go for.
