Any 26 x 1 1/2 studded tires?
 

My problem is the mfr. says the fork on the bike I am getting will accept tires no wider than 1 1/2". I found a good selection of 26 x 1 3/4 and up and a fair selection of 700 x 1 1/2 and less. That's no good. Does anyone know if such a tire exists?

I am also trying to figure out what kind of bike that would be. That is a weird tire size limitation. Generally bikes that can not take wider tires have 700c wheels or are much older.

There are lots of different 26" wheel standards. You'll have to be more specific as to what bike you have.

The bike will be either a Performer suspension high racer 26 USS or Performer Goal X 26 USS. I haven't decided yet but they take the same 559 wheel and fork. I'm buying a frame kit and using my wheels. With my 19mm wide rims I might be able to fit a 40mm wide tire but certainly not 47mm which seems to be the minimum for 559s. Oh well, I wouldn't be riding that bike much in winter anyway. I just had visions of swapping wheels between that bike and my mountain bike so I would have my IGH and dynamo hub on both. I guess I'm stuck with the mountain bike for the winter. I ride in traffic a lot so even mostly clear roads are risky on a recumbent without proper winter tires.

I could not find anything smaller than 26x1.75 either. Is it possible to get the manufacturer to spec a fork with a little more clearance? Since most recumbent builders are smaller shops it may not be out of the question. If they will not go for that, you may be a great candidate for DIY studs. I made some for my mountain bike last winter and they worked great. Since clearance is tight you can even go really nice and buy some real studs instead of using screws which will stick out much less.

Thanks for trying. even finding a 26x1.5 with enough tread to take studs may be a little difficult. I doubt they could build me a special fork even though with an IGH there would be less of a chain line issue. They wouldn't even build me a boom without a fd post. I'll look into diy studs.
