Fixed Gear on Ice/Snow
Rode my fixed gear w/clipless for the first time in the snow/ice today. I know that many say that fixed gears are better on snow and ice, but I felt a little shaky. When going over slush/ice/snow do you find it better to stand or sit for better balance?

The only real advantage I find for fixed in winter weather is monitoring your traction. Without a freewheel little slips in rear traction become very noticeable.
I would not recommend standing over uncertain terrain - if you have to fall, it is better to do so from a sitting position so you can fall with the bike as opposed to on to it IMO.

On my geared bike I prefer to stand while going over uncertain terrain. Mostly because I can stop pedaling, focus on balance and lower my center of gravity. But on the fixed I have to keep pedaling. It definitely feels different.

I agree with you, when stuff gets icy or really rough I like to level my pedals and push my weight off the seat a little bit. Maybe move it back over the rear tire. Not really standing, more like a crouch. I can see why a fixed gear might be good for certain conditions, but I prefer being able to coast from time to time. Plus, how could you fart while riding? C'mon!
