Huge news from the Tour of Poland!
JJ Haedo was not kidnapped by aliens. He got third on today's stage.

98% of the individuals I work with are native Polish speaking and/or native Polish born. I have come to respect and appreciate the complex and proud working culture of the Polish people.
That said I am sick of having to get everything I post translated and conducting meetings and training with an interpreter.
.....maybe I'm just bitter because it used to be Spanish and I could understand a lot more Spanish than I can Polish.....

I read some Polish history. I tried to get through Michner's "Poland".
From what I can gather the history of Poland goes something like this:
We got invaded.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we didn't.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we kicked the Soviets out.
My guess is they would have had more military success if they shortened their names and removed some of the vowels. By time you've alerted Private Woszjniaejkinitski of the grenade, it's already gone off.
This just in:
Frederik Veuchelen lost 48 seconds on today's stage, dropping him to 141st on GC.

The wikipedia article on the Tour de Pologne is interesting...
And in the 2008 Tour, what was the purpose of a 4 km TTT? Seems ridiculously short.

It is incredibly long but decent, as far as books focused on such subjects go. Slightly entertaining IMO, but I'm getting a doctorate in European history and my dissertation is going to be on Poland.
I'm trying to find pictures of the roads that the tour is going over so I know where to go riding next time I visit. My aunt is big into cycling organizations in the Warsaw area but I want to explore the mountains.

Hey, my spousal unit is 2nd generation Polish American. Heck, our daughter even had a look see from from the Polish National Soccer team under the FIFA generation rules.

Try reading Norman Davies "God's Playground" (at least the second volume) if you for some reason want more Polish history.

I enjoy reading history. My hat is off to you because European history is incredibly well documented and the information volume is enormous. It's probably why lately when I book shop I end up with 600 pages on Peru instead of 6000 pages on Germany from 1300-1350.
While I've met more than one striking Polish gal (my primary metric for evaluating a country's value), the Tour of Poland is, by all accounts, a crappy race and probably explained by some slimy UCI official who's driving around in a new Mercedes with a pocket full of unmarked bills and two Polish/Ukrainian "models".
This just in: Astana's highest placed rider is 48th.
I know, but IT'S THE TOUR OF POLAND.
