Excelsports has Vittoria Corsa CX III Factor Tubular Tires on sale for $49.88. These are the "pro series" version. Is there any significant difference between these and regular Vittoria Corsa CX III's?

Nashbar is having an additional 15% off today, I got the garmin 500 bundle for $225 or so including tax and shipping. Now I won't be the only person racing without a speedometer, and I can learn more about cadence and my HR.

Love Terpstra. It was great watching him and Keisse take a lap late into the last madison during the 6-day. There was still 10 or so laps left in the race but as soon as Keisse rounded the track he knew it was over. GG

While scrolling through my facebook feed, i learned that Chase Pinkham, a pro racer, has passed away.

I first met Chase on slowtwitch back in 2010 when i was looking to purchase a powertap wheel. Through his generosity, I was able to purchase the wheel at a significantly discounted price. It didn't take me long to realize that he was an up and coming racer, and a quick google search led me to the details of the horrific accident he suffered back in 2008.

Though I never mentioned this to him, I started rooting for him. As some of you know, 2010 was my first year racing a bike, and I, too, suffered a pretty serious injury, though nowhere near what Chase had to go through. I lost a few front teeth and still have visible scars from the accident, and reading about his recovery was inspirational.

A real tragic story. RIP, Chase.

2930 W, per se, might not be so bad. i hear that Hoy has a maximum pop of 2 kilowatts. Shane Perkins is a hair above that. 5 seconds? Seems to border on land of unicorns.

That AND the fact he has a VO2max of 78ml/(kg*min)? Quintuple BS alarm

To be fair, he has a degree in chemistry and worked in pharmaceuticals.

I mean my 5s is 1400W but I'm not as big as him. I can't imagine doubling that. I saw that 5sec and i was like you w0t m8?

All his numbers look outlandish. When I was 215lbs and actually lifting regularly there was no way I could break 270 lb bench. 450 seems insane territory. 700 deadlift? lol thats almost 8 plates on each side!

^^ he also lists his 5s power but races triathlons, which makes me lean towards legit.

If he said he had a 400w ftp to go along with all that muscle mass, I'd be suspicious.

Its a good thing with that 5s power he only does triathlons. Maybe he can convince Usain Bolt to do marathons.

I recently met one of the US Sprint Champions and his 5s doesn't come close to that.

This is really really sad, Chase was an awesome guy who I also met through slowtwitch and communicated with. Really sad...

I'll chime in a little. I believe that the 2930 is a typo and should probably read more like 1930. I would question the posted weight as well. I am 5'10.5" and weigh in right now at 224 and that dude looks much larger than I do even though it would appear that our bodyfat level is similar (he may be a little leaner). I am not sure why they would say his max 5s is that as he doesn't have power on his bike. That being said though I have never followed a powerlifting program and have never worn a suit (that is where they refer to 1 ply) his powerlifting numbers are not that far out of line.
At a bodyweight of about the same as his I have pulled a 605 deadlift 5 times.
Recently I squatted a 715 to 20" 5 times
I do not do bench press due to shoulder issues but have narrow gripped 385 5 times.
I hack squatted 8 45 pound plates per side 8 times a month ago. His numbers seem about right from that perspective though the cycling side seems a little outlandish as I would not hesitate to have a head to head sprint with him.

Oh yeah, I lift clean.
If I were all jacked up again I would demolish any of my current lifts or power output...

I am not 100% sure. Some of our guys no more detail than what is out there and Tim H. Seems to know what's up.

I forget where that cramping thread went, so I will submit this here regarding the changing nature of understanding training and medical advice.

chase was a friend. it is truly sad. we both suffered injuries in february and offered each other encouragement. he was in a bit of a dark place for a bit but seemed to come out of it...then this news today. so sad.

they've been teaching for a while now that ice may delay healing. in my wilderness first responder training a while back this was a point of discussion (5+ years ago). inflammation can be a natural response to injury; impeding it at all costs may cause problems.

like any topic, there are shades of grey. for some, "rest" means total immobility. for some, "ice" means a deep freeze.

does some of the benefit of having trained dirty carry over into what one can do clean today?
